I think he is slightly overpaid. Over his career he is about 20 points over 82 games. Brings physicality. Not too bad defensively. There are lots of close comparables for his contract. - manvanfan
Agreed, I like his heart, attitude and hockey IQ that its worth the extra to me, particularly on a team that lacks those things |

I wonder how much he does bring to the team. I would like a higher draft pick this season. Wonder if he is one of the players if healthy goes at the Trade deadline |

I look forward to having him back on the team, his tenacious forecheck was missed. A lot of guys like Gaunce and Chaput skate hard, but were IMO inefficient with their energy use by chasing the play a lot. Dorsett is good at getting the angles right and making contact, he could teach them a few things
Definitely, a few guys posted a bunch of his tweets earlier and I started following. Really gets the good stuff on Vancouver sports - WhiteLie

My expectation is 5, no higher. We're not lucky at the lottery. |

Depeding on how much they purge the team at the TDL. Selling off players to create cap space or make room on the roster. 2-12 to end the season. If they had Gudbranson, Dorsett and kept hansen and burrows. Team probably would have been closer to 75-80 points. |

I dont think he brings much that you can quantify, but energy is a big thing for younger players to feed off of.
I hope enough progress is made in other players where he becomes expendable at the deadline, I think he could bring a solid return. I'd be open to bringing him back again in the summer, but moving him for picks is important and I am sure he knows that |

DD has one more season under contract after this one. If he scored 20 points last season (the entire 4th line combined)
Probably adds another 3 wins on the season.
The energy is huge for a team that lacks it. So many young players that can feed off of it. Even the old players showing a bit more grit. |

Canada vs Sweden game is pretty good. Just started the 3rd period. NYR draft pick Lias Andersson looks a lot like Henrik Zetterberg too me. Thought they drafted a bit high but he has been good the entire tournament. |

Ah yes I was looking at the wrong line on capfriendly, then I keep him unless blown away by an offer. He serves 2 purposes for me, he brings energy/experience to a team that lacks it and he takes up a 4th line space that forces the team to play prospects in top 9 NHL or top AHL minutes
Would be curious if anyone has developed a WAR for hockey yet. Id be very interested to see how many wins certain players are worth |

That would be really awesome. That's a great idea. I'm not sure how you would really go about it because more of the same position in hockey. I think it would have to be really complicated. Way too complicated for me.
Sorry to meniton the leafs but I really do like what they did with their young prospects. Even if they were better still allowing them the big minutes and playing lesser NHL players. Having Dorsett instead of JV or someone who could still benefit from a larger role. I have always thought that 4th line roles should be for the older players.

RNH can create offense, Sutter's offense is a product of him playing with someone who can bring that out in him, he doesn't make other players around him better I guess is what I'm trying to say. - LeftCoaster
Only in a top 6 role as he had shown in Edm his first few seasons...not sure if he would get top 6 minutes here. Other than that in a bottom 6 role we may as well just keep Sutter as their numbers are similar. Hopkins (like Sutter) barely breaks 40 pts in a bottom 6 role. With the exception of last season Sutter is overall better defensively too. |

Definitely, just having different lines makes it a complicated stat to produce a "replacement level". A 1st liner will always be better than a 4th liner, but guys jump up and down too
Agreed, I was a fan of them holding Nylander down in the AHL. Develop the player for the role you want for them |

I wonder if they have something like that already with the comparison tool, of a player vs the average of a 3rd line center or 2nd line winger. The shot, goal, first A, shot suppression chart. It kind of shows if that player is doing better then the average for that position. Just not by an individual basis. |

All I can think of is the HERO/WARRIOR charts that put a player in a 1st line/2nd line/etc. performance ranking based on the stats. Surely someone can set a baseline metric for "average"

If they could expand on the skater V archetype tool. They could figure out who is ahead of whom playing those positions on a more regular basis. Right? I'm probably above my head now. I know they have the stats. Probably not as important in hockey to figure out if players are that much better then another. |
