Two words. Salary Cap. There is only one of enough money to go around, and with Nylander, Middlestsdt, Guhle, Reinhardt and possibly Baptiste/Bailey/Fasching having break out years, there is no way Kane get a contract from Buffalo. If he would take a 2-3 year deal to bridge the gap until Nylander/Middlestsdt are primed to take over that spot, then yeah. But there is no way in hell he's taking less than 6 years when every single team can bid in him. Right now we're thin at LW, but in a couple years it's going to be crowded, and you can't pay all of the guys in the next 3 years with Kane on a 6+ year deal.
So that is why I can 100% say he's not going to be part of the core going forward.

Couldn't disagree more
Say we keep Kane @ something like 6mil for 6yrs
Going forward,
the top2 lines would probably be something like...
Kane-Eichel-Reinhart
_____-O'Reilly-Okposo
So how many of these young guys will get icetime to have these "break out years" that it seems u think they'll all have?
Looks like 1 spot to me
Also, Thea young guys will have to do almost all their scoring 5v5
We have the #1 PP in the league, so there's no reason to change it
It's pretty hard for young kids to come into the NHL & just start ripping it up
Especially with little PP time
And will ALL of them work out?
If they do, that's a good problem to have
Gorges, Bogosian, Pominville, Moulson all coming off the books over the next couple years as well
That's around 20mil in cap space
Plus with Vegas in the league, I'm expecting the Cap to raise more than just 2mil each year
So my point... it can be done
and it's fairly easy to do so
You're overreacting to the Salaries these guys will make
We're ok with the Cap
