I'm pretty sure they have people watching the game and manually collecting the data, that is what makes it so hard.
If the NHL would put a chip in the puck and jockstrap and make that super accurate data available, even I could launch a site that creates visualizations using it.
But all of these guys getting picked up by teams are getting the excruciating manual legwork done to collect the data they need to calculate the statistic and build the visualization they have in mind. |

Since when is Hornqvist garbage?
Cogs plays center. He play a all forward positions, just primarily wing.
Bjugstad's not very good.
Not a Berglund fan but the fact that he's not great value is why he's realistic.
Pretty sure Sobatka had to sign with St Louis. Why would St Louis say no to an asset that just costs cap space?
Koivu only has one year of term. We can fit that cap hit for a year.
Calgary has atrocious RW depth and Backlund only has a year of term. If they believe in Bennett, then that's a possibility we probably add. If they don't believe in Bennett then why isn't he realistic? We probably add too.
I can see how Bozak makes no sense due to TO forward depth, but value's there so I threw it out - Victoro311
trade for Soderberg already and do me a solid. THANKS

Does this blog imply that we should soon worry about Eklund's Buzztron 4000 being taken down as teams will hire his PhD wife? |

I remember when the Pens were a largely a perimeter team. We did a lot of losing in the playoffs because of it. It's why Rutherford made trading for Hornie his first priority and I think it's a gross mistake to trade him.
For whatever it's worth, Yohe has commented numerous times that Sully and Rutherford think he's invaluable. |

I am both happy that another site dedicated to staterizing the game I love is down and sad that there is less info out there about the game I love. I am also really pulling for you, mr wilson, to eventually be one of these cats who turns this malarky into a viable career for an nhl team for two reasons...One. you deserve it for all your hard work... and two. I hopefully have less hardcore chart on eye action to sift through when I read the hockeybuzz pens blog. get it done! |

The NHL is moving the Hockeyville winning pre season game between the Penguins and St. Louis to the Pen's practice facility in Cranberry on 9/24 because the winning Rostraver Ice Rink in Belle Vernon was deemed unfit to host an NHL pre-season game.
The rink will still get the $150,000 worth of upgrades to the facillity and the Pens will have a training session and events the week of 9/24 in Rostraver.
I feel bad for the kids, hopefully, the Pens can give them some gear, too! |

I believe all of those kids and the community of Belle Vernon get to go to the game still |

I probably wouldn't because of all the younger wings, but I'd at least consider it. I don't think his game is going to fall off a cliff soon like a lot of people, just loom at Hornqvist.
Gajtka at DK is doing an advanced stat breakdown of players and did Hornqvist yesterday. Short version is he scores right at a 1st line wing rate and has better possession numbers and even better goals percentage numbers.
His goal .3 and point .63 per game numbers were consistent with his career numbers. His hero chart has him at exactly first line wing production.
He was third on the team in shot generation 63.4/60 and 4th in shot suppression 54.4/60. His corsi relative was 4.1, third best behind Crosby and Hagelin. His hero chart gave him 7s in both shot gen and suppression, out-performing a top line wing archetype of 6 and 5.
Specifically to linemates (he used 3 year samples) Crosby has a 2% better corsi for with Hornqvist while Malkin's is 5% better. However Malkin's goals for is just 52% with Hornqvist while it's 67% with Crosby. Hornqvist posted a 61% goals for last year.
So if you think he'll hold steady for a few more years, is it really that silly to consider signing him again. I probably don't, but I'd at least consider it. It would open up the possibikity of trading Sheary for a 3C, as he'd actually get the type of player everyone wants especially with his nice contract. |

Unfortunately for Horny, the thing that really counts he doesn't rate high enough in.
Vic wants him gone! His Vic%/60 just isn't high enough. He's a goner... |
