Got that right. Not losing a future top pairing guy, and a 3rd, for a 28 year old with 2 years left on a deal. - twpguy

patches would look good in San Jose replacing Marleau. Could also see a fit in Carolina |

Right.
Hextall says, "Yes, I am going to pass on that."
No chance this happens. No offense to the Hab's player, but this just doesn't fit the current Flyers model. - meduser
I agree 100% about no chance happening. I just don't agree with the other guy who was saying that Pacioretty + 1st pick for Sanheim + "some draft pick" was a bad deal for the Flyers, on paper. I'm not the biggest Pacioretty fan, I just think Ek pulled a classic click bait on Habs and Flyers fans, his two biggest fanbases on HB. |

The Schenn move proves this as complete garbage.
Hextall only cares about 3-5 years from now.
That's why draft junkies love him
Without Snider he has an unlimited window to build |

Based on what everyone says it doesn't look like this makes sense from either point of view.
Is there any worry that Giroux and Voracek are getting older and maybe there's some pressure to do something while they are still in their prime? |

Yes unlimited, and no, they will always remain.
The "stepford fans" anyway, I know I was one for 40 plus years.
Tired of this long ass, lengthy rebuild.
Oh, I'm sure 5 years from now they "may", become the Penguins, but who has the patience to tell their fans to just sit and watch poop for another 3-5 years?
This team does, and without Snider, his plan is flourishing
Go to Meltzers boards:
"move Simmonds for a first, and 2nd"
"move Schenn for 2", (well that's happened already).
That Schenn trade has everyone believing Hextall, "fleeced", Armstrong in St. Louis.
No, it's because St. Louis is not in the position to throw seasons away, you always try to win, somehow, don't you?
The fanbase is split, Meltzer's boards draft junkies, (trade everyone for a pick), or the one's like I was, who bled out every (frank)ing loss, and wished this wasn't happening.
It was either all one way, (Holmgren), or all this way, (Hextall), I would have accepted someone more in the middle. |

Couple of years removed from this. Actually Flyers would move Giroux in a split second for a decent return of picks and prospects....

Win at all cost was no longer working. The cupboard was bare. Cap maxed out with crappy contracts. It's taken 3 years to she'd that garbagr Holmgren gotvus into. We still have Andrew MacDonald and Matt Read like an albatross around our neck. Yes, I hate Missing the playoffs. But there is a clear path forward. It's not like playing roulette at every TDL or during free agency. This is better.

theres an "in between", to either of the above mentioned GM's methods.
They are extreme opposites & I dont agree with either method.
you can sign players, draft wisely, build, while being competitive in a different way.
Not just one way, or the other. Holmgrens way was ridiculous, but I'm not a fan of this guys way either. its like watching paint dry.
seriously how tough is his job now if absolutely no expectations are put on him whats so ever? Heres the blueprint, no hurry, take as long as you want, oh and if you can dump a few mid 20 aged 20 goal scorers for picks along the way to lengthen the process, great! |

Meh, Filppula is in the last year of his deal. Maybe you can call Lehtera's deal an albatross, but even that is manageable.
Agree about Giroux, especially if his trend continues.

fans with their prospects are like parents with their kids.
they could become the leader of the free world or be the next Gretzky. |

I know right...Hexy has been the GM of the Flyers for the past 5 years and they have nothing to show for the approach they are taking.
Or this will be his 3rd full season as GM and every draft resource out there has the Flyers prospect pool from first over all to 5th .
The old approach wasnt working , the new approach is going into its 3 full season so Im willing to give it time. If that makes me a Stepford then oh well. |
