At his current rate, he'd have to score at the same rate as he is now for 7.5 more years to hit 1000 points, at which time he'd be 39. No way that happens, let alone 900 points. He's really good defensively, but in no way good enough offensively to be HOF. I'll drop it as i'm definitely in the minority, but this guy is hall of very good, not hall of fame imo
- jcragcrumple

Clark GIllies is in the HOF with 693 points. He won no individual award during his career.

I can easily see Bergeron having 2 50 pts seasons, a 60, and 2 40 over the next 5 years. That's 240 which puts him over 900. He'll get in.

How is that a BS argument?

Are you trying to say Reinhart would be the best 3C in hockey? How many teams had 2 50 point centers? 15? Maybe?

- sbroads24

Because the production of the 3C on Chicago has ZERO coorelation to the 3C on Vancouver to the 3C on St.Louis to the 3C on Buffalo and ANY other team

They have absolutely ZERO baring on one another

That's the other thing.

Can't roll 3 centers on one PP unit. So one of O'Reilly or Sam are getting the boot.

- sbroads24

Wtf are u talking about?!
Why can't Sam be on PP1 if he's playing 3C instead of RW?

Another BS statement

So is Eric Staal HOF then? Better ppg then Bergeron and the same amount of cups

By putting Gainey in the HOF, IMO Jere Lehtinen should get in
- homiedclown

Guy Carbonneau as well.

Because then by default you are putting out your 4th line after every PP.

Unless you want to double shift one of them.

- sbroads24

I can't believe you're actually saying this ridiculousness

Lines always get mashed up the next couple shifts coming off the PP,
and then they work it back to the regular rotation

Yes they do. Who are Sam's line mates on the 3rd line?

Think he's hitting 50 points with Girgensons and Bailey? Or Pouliot?

You can't even name another 3rd center with 50 points because they don't exist in the NHL right now.

He'd be a 35-40 point center. That's what decent 3rd line centers produce

You're so shortsighted...
first...
Sam will still get plenty of pts on PP1

AFTER this season, should have PLENTY of talent to play on line3 w Sam

Nylander-Eichel-Baptiste
Bailey-O'Reilly-Okposo
Kane-Reinhart-Pominville

Or maybe they don't want 2 young guys on the wing with Jack right away,
So switch Nylander & Kane
Or switch Baptiste & Pommer
Or maybe switch all the wings & line 3 could be
Nylander-Reinhart-Baptiste
THAT LINE WON'T BE ABLE TO SCORE?

And if we move Kane,
Fasching or Rodrigues for now
Then there Mittelstadt on the way, and Pu and Asplund

So sure...
maybe this season Sam would be stuck on line 3 with Bailey/Pouliot and Pominville/Baptiste/Fasching/Rodrigues/Girgensons
Of course it's not ideal
But by NEXT year, it could be a very productive line

Why can't we do another "Vanek-Roy-Afinogenov" 3rd line?
Yes...
With Mittelstadt & Nylander coming,
we do have the talent to do that

Hey, I'm all for 3 scoring lines. It's just tough for all of them to produce like that in this league, right now.

Nick Bonino was known as an excellent 3rd line center and has had years of 29 (in 63 games) and 37 points. That's with Kessel as a winger some of the time

Even this year it could be

Bailey-Eichel-Okposo (18 mins)
Pouliot-O'Reilly-Baptiste (17 Mins)
Kane-Reinhart-Pominville (15 Mins)
Girgs-Lars-Josefson/Moulson (10 mins)

Subtract/Add for PP time. That way each of the top 2 lines get a vet. That 3rd line would get its points, the 4th would be your checking line

But he also didn't get the PP1 time that Sam would get
Are u discounting that?
Bc I think that's where the big difference would be made up

For example...
look at Kessel's production on line3
That's a more accurate comparison bc He gets the same situational icetime that Sam would
Not that Sam is gonna be Kessel...
just showing how a guy with 3rd line icetime still produces points like he's in the top6

Exactly
To be fair to SBroads...
I agree with him that Sam's stats wouldn't take a HUGE leap this year
But eventually,
once we get Nylander & Mittelstadt in the lineup...
then we have plenty of wing talent to really roll the 3 scoring lines

Reinhart's pretty good. he's just really boring. Unfortunate from an entertainment stand point, but hes still pretty effective most of the time.

That stretch towards the end was stink/stank/stunk though.

That's fair
A lot of the good plays he makes rarely get noticed though

I specifically remember the Eichel OT rush & goal vs Nashville
That doesn't happen if not for a VERY smart play that Sam makes
This is all most remember

https://youtu.be/HFas1t_X-bM

But we would've lost possession if not for a really smart play by Sam just moments before
There was a sloppy play just inside the Nashville blue line,
and instead of dumping the puck into the corner...
which is your instinct when in the offensive zone,
keep it in, battle for the puck, etc...
the problem is that it's 3on3 & if he did that, Nashville gets the puck

BUT...
Sam shoots it all the way back to Lehner and we keep possession
Eichel picks up the puck
And u know the rest of the story

Now start watching at the :30 mark,
and you'll see what I mean

https://youtu.be/Tt7AXpDa-C4

I'd bet very few of u guys remember that play Sam made

And plays like that happen every game
It just doesn't always lead so directly to a memorable moment
So a lot of the little stuff like that which Sam does goes unnoticed

I have a hard time giving bailey, pouliot and baptiste more ice time than reinhart though

Yeah it comes down to philosophy, best available top 6 vs balance. I think if you call up Baptiste or Nylander they should be in the top 6. Bailey can play bottom six, but I don't like the idea of playing Baptiste with Moulson

That's going to be the issue IMO.

Reinhart might be better at center (I personally think he belongs at wing) but will he get enough ice time long term.

If he's like Jordan Staal, does he want to be the man somewhere else?
