Winter nations give all sports a ton of TV recognition.
US TV only if Americans r in the event.
Idc if the winter olympics don't make money.
Its not about money its about competition & not NHL's problem.
Athletes & sports federations have made doping a mainstay.

Btw do u tune into non American broadcasts?

You would tune in if NHL players who are the best in the sport play though right?

So if if Ovi leads a revolt defection just off his team alone you got 4 top Olympians. Crosby has been silent but he is 30 and wants to add another Championship to his mantle to push him into greatest of all time status. You know Gino is chomping at it and would join Ovi. Plus Kane at 28 is in peak form so he knows this is his best chance too. The young stars like McDavid, Mathews, JG, and Laine know they can wait four more years no problem.

But if the older stars of NHL who are at peak say screw it then would they follow? NHL would be in a bind if they all do and short of lockout on players have no real remedy to stop them, do they?

I tune in & watch any Olympics regardless.
So u claim players ignore binding contracts?
Remedy is simple suspended contracts & no pay or play.
Breach of contract. Nul & void & option for clubs to renegotiate.

Are u an advocate for anarchy?

Not really, can't stand TSN/Sportsnet and CBC doesn't have much sports save for rebroadcasts of SN's HNIC. You can't have competition if you don't make any money, the athletes depend on endorsements just to make ends meet and most times have to work several jobs on top of training to stay in peak form for their sport. The Olympics usually are the only way top athletes can showcase themselves and be able to support themselves and their families in order to do what they love.

You can say it's not the NHL's problem, but once they agreed to send NHL players first to Nagano and then each subsequent Olympics, they don't have the right to then say "Oh, we aren't getting money for this, why should we stop the season for 3 weeks while our players are overseas?" when they were more than happy to do it for Salt Lake and Vancouver. I never recalled any grumbling about Lillihammer, or Nagano which was worse for travel and time when the games would be on TV than wherever it is this year in South Korea.

I think they should send NHL players for 3 weeks because then for 3 weeks the Canucks will have a chance to win some hockey games with other teams best players gone.

Well maybe so but the IOC needs to kiss the NHL's ass not the other way around.
If i were an owner I'm not risking my players for the sake of IOC or hosts coffers.
Put hockey into the summer Olympics & negotiate an amicable agreement.
Beats the heck outta the basketball event. The NHL in direct competition against the NBA would be much better. Show the world hockey is the far better game & remove the scheduling confilct at that.

That would be awesome if the top players in the NHL had their contracts voided and they were all free agents to sign wherever they want. Incredible outcome if NHL stars ignore Bettman to play in the Olympics. JB get out your check book you got some stars to sign

Well if no NHL defections happen wonder if NCAA plus young Euro stars without NHL registered contracts, like EP, would make the cut?

Factor 3
As of right now, only 1 player on the roster has outscored them.
