I agree they will go with 8 defense, but McEneny will be one of them, as they won't risk losing him on waivers. Teams like New Jersey Detroit etc are desperate for defenseman.
Biega will be waived.
Juolevi might just get his chance this year. I am OK with that provided he earns it. Hutton appears more and more to be odd-man out. - Reubenkincade
Only on here. Haven't heard any rumours that he is on the trade block. |

Looking at the players that are on roster, it would appear to me, that Hutton may be the odd-man out.
Also, Benning talked last season about how he had some phone calls on his defensemen, as a result of having some depth at that position. He went and added a little more depth.
In my opinion, that signals that he is open to and hoping to be able to cash in on moving a defenseman or 2 and in my opinion Hutton is a target for other teams and Pedan may be a player that Benning would like to move on from. |

I think Canucks go with 8 D.
They will give OJ 9 games and more than likely send him down.
Then go with Edler Tanev
Hutton Stecher
MDZ Gudbrandson
Weircoch Biega
At TDL someone gets traded - VANTEL
Could be the case.
I have a feeling MDZ will be up ahead of Hutton in the second pairing however.
I am hoping Both Edler and Tanev are gone at TDL. |

There's no expectations this year, acquiring more picks in a good draft year makes sense. |

Team still needs some good older players. Dont want to be the oilers and ruin the young players. |

It's not like we're lacking older players. |

I hope everyone had a good weekend.
As promised I read every post made from Friday afternoon on. Some needed to get a few more 'opinions' in there, and those posters have been contacted.
Overall it was good discussion for a weekend in August. |

I won't waste my time showing you how young the team is. This isn't NHL 18 where you can play rookie mode and your players will still score and grow.
They always talk about sheltering young players. It's impossible to shelter an entire team. |

If you can move Edler or Tanev for assets that will make the team better down the road, do it. |

Where will you then find top 4 D? Not as if they hit the market very often. |

In the draft?
It goes back to if this is a tank and rebuild or a rebuild where the team wants to remain competitive, to some extent, and will live with wherever they finish- but hopefully liquidating pending ufa's and non core players at tdl.
Tryamkin really fecked up goin back to the KHL. or he comes back in a few years and is still needed because those drafted d take longer to develop. |

That's something JB needs to figure out. All i'm trying to say is if we're not competing why would it be unreasonable not to sell off assets at the TDL?

D do take longer. So you draft a good one. He then takes probably 3 years to be where Edler and Tanev are at.
Maybe Edler goes because he is already 30. A good D if not forced into playing a role he's not up for.
like codes always says 3 years away from 3 years of competing then. |

Because you are in constant replacement then. For players on expiring contracts, sure. |
|
|
|
How long do you"shelter" young players? According to capfriendly we have Stecher and Boeser on ELC nhl roster. I sure hope we have another player or 2 on ELC in lineup.
Fine to have depth guys like Megna/Chaput, but they need to be in minors and emergency call ups. Need to see players such as Goldobin and Virtanen playing games at this level. Provided they earn it of course |

Edler will have 1 year left at 5m at the TDL next July. That would probably net a pretty good return in a trade.
Or would you like to see him signed for another 5-6 years? |

Hawks are going to be poopty soon enough. None of these players will probably be a top 6 player. Always need depth though. - manvanfan
Why?
The number of good players under 25/26 on that team is pretty ridiculous. |

Don't worry about it, he's part of the country club. He'll never waive anyway. |

Yeah I don't see Hutton as odd man out either. Edler has two more years and I think Hutton is till developing . We are probably sitting here making daily trades and JB is back at the office thinking D is set for a bit.
I can see Gudbrandson as odd man out if he doesn't have a better year because of his cost. |

2 first round exits. 4 ageing stars. cap problems. Those are complementary players. Gustav forsling is their 2nd ranked prospect. |

Idk what rankings you're looking at. Their prospect pool is very, very good. They already have quite a few young players under 25/26 already making significant contributions.
Toews, Kane, and Keith have shown zero signs of age? They're just burnt out. Modern day dynasties aren't really a thing anymore. There's not much to compare them too. Two first round exits doesn't mean anything honestly. The fact that they keep continuously making the playoffs pretty much on the backs of these 4 players is key.
When you think of number of hockey games their big 4 have played in the last 5 years, it's understandable for these guys to be burnt out. Hawks aren't going anywhere anytime soon. |

For Tanev to be gone Gudbrandson Stecher and Chatfield need to all have very good years or else the right side is a Chines fire drill.
