Vancouver was first in pretty much every major statistical category possible that season
Best PK
Best PP
Best GF
Best GA
Most Wins
Most points
But those numbers were all because of schnieder - classic321
For 11/12 and 12/13, Schneider was about 0.5 GAA per game better than Luongo, who was considered a top tier goalie at the time
So, if Luongo is considered at least "good" and Schneider destroys his numbers with the same team in front of them, is he also just "good"?

I might be the minority but i am not worried about nylander being soft. I think he will be just fine in the nhl. I think he will be a damn good player. - Codes1087
Look at RNH, the kid was born without shoulders for Christ's sake. If he can survive in the NHL, anyone can. |

Funny thing is I'm a Schneider fan. Hated to see him go but under the circumstances I think the canucks made a great deal. We now have a young impact forward on the canuck roster that's been missing since Kesler was drafted in 2003. - bloatedmosquito
Yes, and I've said as much
Here, today in 2017 given what played out the last 4 years, we are better off with 22 yo Horvat than 31 yo Schneider
but go back to trade day, when the Canucks were still competitive, coming off presidents trophies, if you told me you traded a bonafide top tier goalie from a contender for a player with a 2C ceiling who won't be ready for 4 more years
I'd have wanted, and expected, more..... or I'd have wanted to keep the goalie, give away the other one and in theory, keep competing for cups |

Ummm let me see....... why oh why could that be
Maybe because he was playing lesser teams to keep him rested

Stop. Corey played 33 games in 11/12 and 30 games in 12/13.
Wasn't the 12/13 season shortened by the strike? |

Yes, and he was still better than Luongo
Are you suggesting a younger goalie couldn't handle MORE games?

yeah but not 11/12
What the hell is your obsession with this subject?
You still haven't said a comparable trade for a goalie but yet you think its the worst trade in history. |

Dude, I live in Vancouver
It is possible to follow more than 1 team in the NHL. I probably see more Canucks games and news than I ever do Penguins stuff
try not to take things like your local hockey team so seriously

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying because that's the only proof we have. Corey never played more than 33 games for the canucks. We have no idea if he could handle more. That would be speculating.
Is that the game we are playing here? Speculation over fact? Opinion over fact? |

ummm, it's a blog about Horvat, This is how we got Horvat
What's your obsession with hating on Schneider?
Does he need to be bad forever for you to like this trade. Does he need to be terrible as a Canucks in hindsight to you feel like a winner?
Was Mike Gillis the best GM ever for engineering this trade? What's your point of view? |

Isn't that what we're doing with Horvat, because if he doesn't grow beyond a 20 goal 50 point forward, then.....
I'm going to go with the likelyhood that Schneider could have handled more and continued to perform, you can go with the fact that Horvat is going to improve (but not to the point he'll be a bonafide 1C).... deal? |

Yeah I brought up Jack with Manvanfan after talking about his brother who's up for 2018 draft as a top scoring D. He wasn't impressed with either of them. Don't know if their dad who is Leaf player director helped add to hype. |

Lemieux was MY favorite player when everyone elses favorite player was Gretzky. When you're a kid, your favorite team tends to be the one that your favorite player plays on, that was 28 years ago, throw in some cups 91/92, they've never given me a reason to leave. Old habits are hard to break
But that isn't to say, being local, and around a time before streaming, internet, hockeybuzz, etc, that most of the hockey I consumed as a kid and an adult was Canucks, since that was the only medium for information, most of the people I know are Canucks fans, the province, Sportspage (before sportsnet) ... follow? |

I've never said that Horvat was a 1C. But I know that Schneider is not a #1 goalie. He's not the game changer that the Devil's thought they got in that trade. He's just a good goalie.
IMO, good goalies are a dime a dozen. Easy to replace. I think young, impact centres are more difficult to draft and develop and keep. Well, it has been for the canucks anyway. |

It's liberating when you stop wanting your team to draft the likes of Dubois, Glass, Crouse, Logan Brown, Virtanen, Dylan Strome et al. |

In 17 years living in the triangle of Isles, Rangers and Devil fans never uttered WE as a Canuck fan when talking about their teams. So don't hold that label as a bandwagon sell out Pens fan. |

Thats where we disagree
I think that Schneider is well above what is considered a good goalie. He proved that while in Vancouver and what he's done playing for a really bad Devils team has been equally impressive - But the Schneider timeline in Vancouver just didn't work, and Horvat's a better play at this point in time. I'm not ready to use the term "impact" with Horvat yet, but good and young, sure. Thats why he works with what the Canucks are doing now

Benning has been linked to E Kane trades for three years but the price was too high . Next year it is salary only , nothing going back the other way.
Benning has also been mentioned on kicking tires on Stamkos and PK Subban.
Benning also tried to trade up the first over all pick when he first arrived.
You can't assume he won't be in on paying a top free agent or making a trade for a top center.
It possibly won't occur but his history shows he will be checking it out. |

I am sure that when you go to the Devils blog they will be happy to hear how good of a goalie you think Schneider is. |
