That should give you time to reflect on your anti-Gaunce rhetoric. |

Just reading about Crosby turning 30 and his place in history, it's hard to believe he has more Stanley Cups than Mario Lemieux considering how good those early 90's Penguins teams were and the fact that Mario was arguably the greatest player to ever play the game. - LeftCoaster
One more cup and you could really make the argument of Crosby passing Lemieux and Gretzky on the GOAT lists. Hell you could even make that argument now considering what Crosby has accomplished in this era.
We will never see another hockey player as pure as Bobby Orr. Ever. Regardless of era, equipment…whatever…he just had all the tools magnificently. The ultimate compete player so to speak. |

Gonch will score of his ass in his first 9 games to impress Green and will be 4th line lock for 77 games because he is 'defensively responsible'. |

Absurd that after 3 years retired Howe played another 6 season in the WHA putting up another 500 points before returning to put up 41 points in the NHL as a 51-year old |

Yeah it super tough to score back in the day when the goalies took up so much of the net and of course the state of the art equipment....

Okay you didn't like Quinton and said Jack was better but that didn't sound like you were high on him. Classic was talking next Mcdavid, are you now impressed to say that? - Nuck4U
Would be hearing more about him if he was the next generational player.
Nolan foote is playing CHL hockey.
Jack played midget AAA. Will see how Jack does in the US 17 development program.
Still 2 years away from being drafted. Lots can change. |

Somewhere, sometime, someone had mentioned that Gaunce might score if he wasn't playing with the likes of Megma and Chapoo.
Being so defensively responsible. I think he should play Wing for the twins. They can help anyone score. They also really need help in their own zone.

Holding out not to sign to get call from WD to captain team Canada. Just need that injury recovery to settle in to clear first.
Then it's Fire and Fury for Korea |

I understand his point that Orr had the hockey attributes to succeed, he was fundamentally an excellent player but I agree that era's always need to be considered. Its not just the equipment, but the knowledge of the game has far exceeded the top players in bygone eras |

Isn't that what we're doing with Horvat, because if he doesn't grow beyond a 20 goal 50 point forward, then.....
I'm going to go with the likelyhood that Schneider could have handled more and continued to perform, you can go with the fact that Horvat is going to improve (but not to the point he'll be a bonafide 1C).... deal? - PensWin87
What did you get for Fleury again? We actually got more for Luongo

Yes. That's the thing about these kids so much changes year to year with development. I wonder of the early notables for 2018 draft how many will be at the top. It's the year where there game gets broken down to find flaws.
But still going with #DialingItIn4Dahlin and #StickingIt4Svechnikov
The above is lotto win approved |

Yeah exactly, don't get me wrong Orr was a beauty, but you HAVE to consider that when the guy flew in on a breakaway and looked up to find about 60% of the net open and the goalies wearing an oven mitt, a baseball glove and the Sears Wish list catalog around his shins, things were slightly different. |

Even ignoring era differences in equipment, conditioning, and influx of top talent from around the world, I think about how players are just smarter. Guys are better at angling, reading plays and defensive positions. Goaltenders work relentlessly to understand their angles and positioning to hide more of the net and make easier saves. I dont recall seeing many old time videos where a goalie was ever on the top of his crease |

This all points to why era to era comparables are so hard to make. Pick any theme and knowhow, tech and other advancements change the canvass. Maybe for hockey it's best to say what did this player do in his era that was so far above then his peirs and if he changed the way the game was played. |
