Yes. That's the thing about these kids so much changes year to year with development. I wonder of the early notables for 2018 draft how many will be at the top. It's the year where there game gets broken down to find flaws.
But still going with #Dialing ItIn4Dahlin and #StickingIt4Svechnikov
The above is lotto win approved - Nuck4U
It looks like some solid draft depth years. Which is good. |

Ryan Biech just pointed out Boqvist has 6 points for Sweden in 3 games at Ivan Hlinka tournament. |

Yeah exactly, don't get me wrong Orr was a beauty, but you HAVE to consider that when the guy flew in on a breakaway and looked up to find about 60% of the net open and the goalies wearing an oven mitt, a baseball glove and the Sears Wish list catalog around his shins, things were slightly different. - Brooks_Light
Crosby is likely the best player of all time and he will soon be passed by Mcjesus. The era is hugely relevant. I'd be a beast 30 years ago. Lemiuex would have been able to play in todays game but I doubt Gretzky or Orr could. |

I love Guance's confidence. You can just tell from his swagger and Sedin's meek reaction that they both know he is the heir apparent to the captaincy |

Interesting list. Based on fantasy hockey perspective where points matter I am a little surprised at McAvoy's inclusion but in terms of overall impact I would tweak it slightly:
1 Keller
2 Hischier
3 Boeser
4 Jost
5 Patrick
6 McAvoy
7 Eriksson-Ek
8 Strome
9 Puljujarvi
10 Connor
Honorable mention to Chabot, Ho-Sang
This year's rookie class could be fantastic. Barzal, Colin White, Nylander, Sanheim could all be full time this year too |

I guess you have to factor in that in Orrs era, he went from Goalies not having to having face masks, that would've been a huge change. AND goalies going from oven mitts to actual blockers. yay for innovation!
Mario and Gretzky from the 80's-90s equipment changed drastically too. From players not wearing to wearing helmets and the goalies equipment ever increasing in size. To goalies simply getting bigger in physic. I think given Orr, Mario, Gretzky elite skill, each would have excelled throughout each era to an extent. Orr and Mario took hits like Crosby, Gretzky didn't as much, mainly bcus people knew they would die if they did, so even though Wayne had/has possibly the greatest vision of all time, i think he'd get hit more in today's NHL, that's where Crosby separates himself a little from him. |

Gretzky definitely could. In 1999 he still put up 62 points in 70 games as a 37 year old in the dead puck era. He would not have put up 2 point per game average, but he could play today |

in my opinion it's just the size and strength of todays athlete. Crosby has Gretzky's vision but he is a far superior athlete. Gretzky would be slow in todays game. perhaps he would be a power play specialist. I'd give Mario a pass because he has the size to compensate for being slow by todays standards |

Who is to say those players like Orr and Gretzky wouldn't have found other ways to still be at the top.
Gretz had his own rink and was skating years before all other kids. How can anyone predict that a Gretz born in 1990 would not be at a gym everyday at age 4. |

This years draft is projecting like the 2015 draft. Getting a BB late.
Really strong top 10. A second tier that ends near the 30th pick. A second round still strong. |

no one can. if he had Crosby's dedication he probably would have been a great player. it's kind of foolish to compare players from different generations. |

You have it backwards. Crosby had Gretzky's dedication. That is why he is the best . These players learn from one another what it takes to be the best.
It is foolish because great players find a way to be great no matter when they born |

While I think the era each player played in is quite important, you can't take them out and put them in a different era and compare them as-is. They are a product of their era. If you took Gretzky into this era, you would have to factor in all the training and lifestyle that goes into becoming an NHLer today: Gretzky grew up to play the game in a set of parameters/styles (and he subsequently help change a lot of them), but if he were to play in today's game he would have been trained/taught the game differently. I don't think things would have been that much different for him. Crosby is a beast, and bigger than Gretzky – I think McDavid's body-type would be more comparable... he seems to be doing fine.
I mean, if you take Erik Karlsson and put him back in time, he would completely dominate. Or Ovechkin, imagine him in the 40s? |

I agree with you. I was simply comparing them "as is" I have no idea if Mario would drink and chain smoke in 2017. |
