I know it's all fan fiction in all honesty, but keeping JT, ROR and Eichel... That's 30 million on 3 players. Chicago can't even do it with 2. - TheSabresTaco
Just sign him and when the cap gets too unruly we'll have him say he's allergic to his equipment. |

I don't see Karabacek ever being more than a 4th liner at best
We passed on really good defensive prospects that draft
And in the previous draft when we took Hurley...
I didn't get that pick either
If Guhle & Borgen work out,
we'll still be in good shape
But if not...
we could be talking about upgrading the defense every damn year - jdfitz77
Antipin is going to cost them $$$$ on the cap after this season
book it

you will not fit a team under the cap with
ror
okposo
eichel (10 mil plus)
jt (9 mil??)
risto
pommer
bogo
scandella
etc
52 mil right there for 8 guys - homiedclown
Trade Bogosian, Moulson & Pommer
More than worth it to get Tavares... right?

If we can sign JT next offseason,
then we do what we have to to make room
Moulson should be tradable bc it's his last year
But even if we have to add picks to get ppl to take him & Bogosian...
it'll still be less than it would cost to trade for Tavares
So instead of ROR, Kane, 1st
Sign Tavares as a UFA
Trade Moulson + 3rd to wherever
Trade Bogosian + 2nd to wherever
Something like that is how we could make it work with the Cap - jdfitz77
3 or 4 years down the road, it would be brutal though
all these kids that will be flying down the wings, racking up points will be off their entry deals |

Still tbd
But in theory...
Tavares >>> Antipin
If it comes down to it...
Antipin could be traded for a good defense prospect if he does as well as you suggest
Slot Guhle into his spot |

I think it might cost more than that to ship those two off, but who knows. Either way if you knew Tavares was coming here 100%, then yeah wait for UFA and start fielding cap dump proposals. If he just wants off the island though, you'd have to pay. |

easier said then done, as they are on the roster right now
pommer excluded, as bots really really likes him a lot |

GREAT PROBLEM TO HAVE THOUGH
Isn't that what we want?
Then we trade the Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, etc for prospects
And in comes Asplund, Pu, Davidsson
And when those guys demand raises...
we ship them out & replace with the prospects we acquired for Bailey, Baptiste & Fasching
And so on
In theory anyways |

35 is about where I see him this year
can I get back to you after training camp, if they move eichel up front on first unit and antipin is on the first unit with risto, over
if they rotate him and mccabe on second unit, under
guhle is the wild card |

Fair enough, but I'm sure it can be done
And even if Jbotts does like Pommer a lot...
I'm sure he'd like Tavares more than enough to ship out Pommer if we needed the Cap room |

hawks are running dry with it though, IMO they are a bad team at drafting in recent years

One of the best GM's and coaches in the game got booted out of the 1st round of the playoffs relying on that method...
Chicago is struggling with their contracts, Buffalo would be in even worse shape |

Just saying it could be done
And my main point is that Tavares is gonna pick his next team either way
So if it's gonna be us...
then don't give up assets for him
Just sign him as a UFA
Heck...
if it has to be Tavares or O'Reilly
Sign Tavares as a UFA
Then get a great return trading ROR |

They weren't paying those guys $10 million each when they won them though.
The Sabres will be paying them with maybe not even making it to the playoffs yet. |

Ok... in your scenario...
JT as a free agent for 7yrs
plus
the return we get from trading O'Reilly
Sounds better to me than
JT for 9yrs
no return for ROR or Kane & giving up a 1st
That 1st should be a decent player at least
And we should be able to get at least 3 good picks/prospects for O'Reilly & Kane

Doesn't mean we still couldn't win a Cup or more
I know this is all in theory
I'm just saying...
Why trade assets for Tavares if we can sign him as a UFA?
It just makes more sense to wait |
