Oh, yeah, Karlsson played all 18 skater positions and goalie in that playoff series. He is obviously an unfathomable poly-dimensional player. - DARKSEID
yeah, kind of like when the Rangers get the "all you guys have is Lundqvist"
I know it well |

Don't deflect. Hedman is a better defender than Karlsson while almost being just as impactful in the offensive zone. Hedman > Karlsson 8 days a week. |

Karlsson just learned to play defense recently. It'll take him a while to master that skill. He's not the best defender and he's not the best overall defenseman. Hedman is an elite defender with well-above-average offense in his game. He is the best in the East. - DARKSEID
Is that why Karlsson (271 minutes) played 89 more minutes over last season than Hedman (182 minutes) did when their teams were up by 1 at 5v5? |

Ottawa was a playoff team. Tampa Bay wasn't.
Pretty difficult to defend a lead when you don't have the lead.
Can you show me the % of 5v5 minutes played while they had the lead? |

hedman dominates at all aspects of the game.
karlsson being dominated in the dzone by crosby, which he still struggles with against other players, is the criteria to knock him down below hedman imo. - Tumbleweed
Yeah, but Crosby dominates EVERY defenseman. That is a silly argument to make. Although, I guess Hedman did figure out how to stop him. Just put him head first into the glass from behind for a concussion. Works every time. |

held to 1 goal and 2 assists in 7 game playoff series vs Rangers in 2014
but I remember Columbus got more credit for "playing him tough" |

Haha. Hey, I'm open to debates if we can view and compare stats equally.
At the end of the day, I don't think I can be convinced that Karlsson is a better complete defenseman than Hedman is, today. |

you know, you guys love these advanced stats when these lists come out
the last two seasons Torey Krug has 42 takeaways and 117 giveaways
this is an example of only using advanced stats positively when you like a guy |

But you said a little while back that Karlsson isn't at the top because he just learned to play defense. That means he is, today, a complete defenseman.
And if you saw him dominate through the playoffs, even when he was nowhere near 100% it should be obvious. |

I really wish you both would have listed Karlsson as all 5. He's at least 5 better than the next best defenseman... It's amazing! Karlsson either has the puck, or he's on the bench. Usually, he has the puck. |

he's quite arguably in the top 5 players in the whole league and obviously it's best defenseman |
