tyrods numbers are not as bad as people make him out to be
is he great, no
but he is still a top 15 qb in the nfl who only has had 29 starts - homiedclown
The FACT that his numbers are comparable with QBs from 25-30years ago does show just how mediocre he is in today's game
Good QBs now throw for 4,000+
Tyrod barely throws for 3,000
Why not compare Tyrod's numbers to his contemporaries?
He was some thing like 25th last year in passing TDs + rushing yards per game for starters
That's pretty bad considering there's only 32 teams
Finally...
Tyrod is NOT the 15th best QB in the NFL
He's more like 20-22 |

and he had a better rating than rivers, and winston last year

and what if he improves this season, then you have 6 picks in the top 3 rounds to upgrade the rest of the roster

That never works out for the player.
Matt Leinart would've went #1 gotten a poop ton of money, but waited a year.
Jimmy Clausen same deal, except he would've been able to come out after his sophomore season. maybe not number 1, but certainly top 10.
RGIII goes to Denver and is probably still there doing well. Sure he went 2nd the next year anyway, but it still didn't work out for him.

Last year, Tyrod's QB rankings
Completion%... 19th
Td%... 18th
Int%... 9th
Yds per game... 27th
Yds per attempt... 22nd
Yds per completion... 19th
QB rating... 18th
Game winning drives... tied 24th (1)
Some QBs who had more GW drives:
Tom Savage, Matt Moore, Brock Osweiler, Case Keenum, Ryan Tannehill, Alex Smith
I can go on & on
Is he terrible?
No
But he's not good either
And up against most other teams QBs,
we are at a disadvantage

241 passing yards per team per game last year.
204 just 10 years ago and it was pretty consistent for a long time until recently.
2010-2016 occupy the top 7 spots in per game passing averages.
1995 is a bit of an anomaly at 8.
2009 and 2007 round out the top 10.
So yeah, it is absolutely true that it's a pass happy league more now than it ever has been before. An extra 80 yards a game just in passing? That's huge.
edit: https://www.pro-football-...com/years/NFL/passing.htm In case you want to see for yourself. - Wetbandit1
Extra 80 yards passing, let's say half that is to a RB or TE, then the left over 40 yards per game, let's give 25 of them to the #1 WR. An extra 400 yards per 16 game season. Let's add that to Andre Reed's totals.
He still only cracks 1500 yards receiving 2 times. 1500 is the new 1000 if this is a pass happy league and an extra 80 yards per game.
That 'standard' goes up and people need to stop with this rhetoric about the NFL being pass happy now and guys would have killed it back in the day if they had the QBs like we do now. Most QBs (frank)ing suck. We had Warren Moon, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Dan Marino, Drew Bledsoe... The list of 80's and 90's QBs goes on and on. We have a lot of "garbage" yards now that are ALLOWED TO HAPPEN by players and referees alike when a game is out of hand just for Fantasy Football sake.
If we're going by this standard, then Wayne Gretzky played with tiny, un-athletic goalies who wore street hockey pads, so we can just take his 2700 points and half that to 1400 and guess what? He isn't the great one anymore. |

Tyrod can't sniff the jockstrap of Cam, Eli, or Palmer
This isn't what MIGHT Tyrod do this year... it's what has he actually done
So this is based off of what they have actually done, not what they might become or their measurables, etc
Totally merit based & not looking at the future
(Ex: Mariotta won't be ahead of Palmer)
If u wanna talk "going forward" that's a different convo to me
Generational talents (1-3)
*in the all-time greats category
Rodgers, Brady, Brees
Proven Stars (4-12)
*this category isn't in order, as I feel an argument can easily be made to shuffle them around quite easily
Roethlisberger, Wilson, Luck, Ryan, E.Manning, Newton, Stafford, Palmer, Rivers
Rising Stars (13-16)
*could probably be grouped in the above category, but need another year for me to put them there- they could leap ahead of some in the above category after this season
Carr, Winston, Cousins
Almost Rising Stars (17-18)
*not quite on the level of the above, but trending that way
Mariotta, Prescott
***this is the grouping I feel you could make an argument for Tyrod, EXCEPT, last year just about all his numbers went down... so it puts into question which way he's trending
*last year at this time, I'd have had him in this group
This is my CutOff Line
Anyone above,
I'd be happy w/ as the Bills QB
Anyone below,
I'd say we need to improve
Good, Solid QBs (18-28)
*and/or guys w/ Talent, but still have something to prove
Dalton, Flacco, Tannehill, TYROD TAYLOR, Bortles, Kaepernick, Bradford, Siemian, Wentz, A.Smith, Glennon
*so I guess I have Taylor ranked #21
*for me to move him up into the next tier, he needs something like 3,500+ passing yards & 24+ td passes
And even those stats really just have him on par with Flacco & Dalton (and worse stats than Tannehill)
Replacement Level QBs(29-33)
*guys who are pretty much just placeholders, or haven't shown much yet
Hoyer, McCown, Goff, Osweiler, Savage |

That doesn't mean it's not happening. 80 yards extra a game is a monumental difference. It's an extra ~20%!
I don't know that I'd half Gretzky's totals, but yes, they are inflated due to the atrociousness of goaltending in the 80's. |

Those 80 yards can be attributed to rule changes that make QBs untouchable and garbage time yardage that literally NEVER HAPPENED pre-2000 NFL. |

Your "grey area" QBs...
come on
Manning, Palmer & Newton are stars who've accomplished FAR more than what Tyrod has even come close to
Flacco is arguable, I'll give u that
But u could just as easily put Flacco ahead of Tyrod as u could Tyrod ahead of Flacco... its close
Heck... if Tyrod stays at 3,000yds passing & 20TDs,
the he will actually get passed by some of the guys u have listed |

I'm separating and bolding this to address something I've heard quite a lot over the past several years and that's basically the NHL didn't track score sheets good enough, was too enamored with the guy even to realize that apparently (several ex-Oilers have said as much) the score-keeper was "generous" when crediting assists.
How many more were deflected? Momentarily touched an opposing player's stick? Offsides? Modern camera tech allows the NHL to scrutinize every single play. You can bet Wayne's 92 goal season would be a less than 90-goal season, to say the least.
Just like what if the NFL had protected QBs starting with the 1984 draft? What if the decades of sports science and engineering hit it's peak in the 90's and not in the 2000's?
It's all moot. I saw the 90's Bills teams. I was 5 years old when No Good Norwood missed that kick. I watched it live.
Believe me, it was a special team and an historic run. But aside from Bruce Smith and Thurman Thomas, not a single player on those teams was elite and I'd argue the only one besides them who is even HoF worthy is Steve Tasker, for basically being the greatest special teams player of all-time.
We had a phenomenal coach staff, a great amount of luck, a lot of depth, some great role players and one elite player on Offense and one on Defense. |

And here was me, giving about 33% to Andre Reed when in reality, it was more like a 20% uptick. So he actually would have just barely cracked 1500 two times, which is the new 1000 if we're pro-rating everything to the pass-happy NFL of today.
And don't just brush off the huge amount of garbage time yardage the NFL allows simply for the sake of fantasy football. WTF are teams giving up and letting the opposing team pad their stats? You wouldn't catch the 90's Steelers DEAD doing this. |

On the bold, it didn't hurt Andrew Luck, who would be a Panther if he didn't skip the 2011 draft. Then again, I'm not sure he wouldn't have been better off as a Panther. |

I like Tyrod, but he's just OK. Doesn't seem like the type to take it to the next level. I didn't read back, but did anyone mention his 3rd down completion percentage ? I have no idea what it is, but the eye test says it's low. Can't count on him to convert a 3rd and 8. Also, none of this matters, since Tom Brady still plays and a wild card is all we can hope for until he retires. My point ? Why bother talking about anything Bills related - from Sammy, to Tyrod, to individual games, until Brady is finally gone. I realized this a couple of years ago, and have taken to DVR-ing the games, and watching them later - but fast forwarding the entire game until I see a Bills TD. Saves you a lot of time, and grief. I'm not a raging depressed jerk on Monday mornings any longer after doing this. Give it a try, jerks.
Wake me up when Brady retires and the Bills are good again. |

My nephew is half black,
so SHUT THE F#CK UP with that kind of BULLSH!T
Saying "I kid" doesn't take away the sh!tty thing u just said
If Tyrod was throwing for 3,600yds & rushing for 500,
then yes... I could hold him in the same regard as 4,000yd passers
INCLUDING rushing stats...
Tyrod was 26th in yards per game for QBs
I'll say that again
Tyrod was 26th in yards per game for QBs including rushing
"System" doesn't dictate moving him up to 15th
Even when system limited stats from guys like Roethlisberger & Wilson early on in their careers, u could see how good they were bc they were winners
Tyrod had ONE game winning drive last year
Oseweiler & Savage split time for Houston & they each had 2
Not saying they're better than Tyrod...
just showing your winning% point is moot when it comes to him
We were 2-6 in games decided by 7pts or less last year
So Tyrod had opportunities for game winning drives
He just didn't do it
That's not my opinion, it's indisputable fact
"If your win the turnover battle win the game" statement is true...
then why is Tyrod ONLY .500 ?
Could it be that he doesn't win games late?
Seems pretty reasonable to say he doesn't come through late in games
After his first year,
he was promising & I'd have grouped him in with guys like Mariotta & Prescott
However,
He took a step back last year in almost every statistical category,
and by the "eye test" he also took a step back imo
The only way u can have him as 15th,
is you're banking on what he WILL DO this season,
Not what he's actually done
He may have that potential, but he's gotta actually do it
Like I said,
Throw for 3,500yds, run for 500, throw for 24+TDs, keep the INTs down...
then we are talking top15 type QB
But he's just not there yet

your softer then a set of 40 dd's
seriously the majority of the board is saying tyrod sucks
the bills suck
then why were we a .500 club the last 3 years with clowns as gm and coach?
tyrods numbers are decent for a qb that has only played 28 games in the nfl
are they outstanding, no

I see 3
okposo
reinhart
pommer
all play rw
unless they flip reinhart to center or okposo to lw
then again with the nylander talk making the team, there is no room for a top 9 player now, unless you move sam to 3rd line center |
