wrong.
Dmen can come out the weakest junior team in the league and become the second best defenseman in the league. I am sure the NCAA works the same way.

Oktoberfest beers seem to be coming out earlier and earlier. It's 95 outside and this local brewery, Coppertail, has had their Oktoberfest on tap for a couple of weeks now. It's a good beer but at least wait for September. |

well hes mad at the Avs that 2 years ago they didnt try to sign him when he didnt even do anything to warrent an ELC.
Wins the Hobey as a sophmore on a stacked team and now you have guys saying he is a legit top 4 dman in the making. (guys who havent really watched him and are just box score watching)
He was getting dummied at Avs development camps against better prospects and talent, he could be a 3rd pairing guy with some time. I would be shocked to see him in the NHL this year. Anything can happen he can prove a lot of people wrong but I just dont see it from 3 years of Avs coverage on this kid |

Very telling IMO. He's not blaming his teammates for last year's failures.
"We have a new GM, new coaches, so it's a new situation for all of us and we have to look at it with the right mindset," Eichel said. "No bad relationships. No opinions. It's important for a lot of guys who might have been on the wrong foot." |

"Roy resigned last August and the Avalanche showed heavy interest in Butcher throughout last season, with general manager Joe Sakic and members of his staff scouting most DU home games." |

Just the way Jack carries himself and talks about the team....i mean...is there really any question that he should be the captain? |

former coach Patrick roy didn't want him...from the chambers article:
"According to Butcher in April, the Avalanche offered him his entry-level contract days after the Pioneers returned from Chicago with the national championship, but he declined sign, saying he wanted to explore his options.
Butcher could hold a grudge against the Avalanche. At the 2015 NCAA Frozen Four in Tampa, Butcher confirmed the Avalanche told his agent the team had no interest in signing him. At the time, Butcher was a junior and first-team All-American, but Colorado head coach and vice president Patrick Roy wasn’t keen on undersized defensemen. Butcher is listed at 5-foot-10 and 186 pounds."

tis true, more to the point why I give Sakic less blame to the mess. He let Roy get what he wanted to much. Sack up Sakic |

that says a lot, but sakic seemed really keen on wanting to sign him...from the chambers article:
“As soon as they’re done, he’ll have a contract offer,” Sakic said. “We hope to sign him. He’s had a tremendous year. Since the moment we drafted him, four years in college, he’s gotten better every year and he’s obviously hot, the Hobey Baker winner, and hopefully they can win the championship and we can sign him and have him be part of the organization.” |

I dont think Butcher will like the situation here. The left side is pretty locked up. Unless he can play comfortably on the right side. But I think conditions will need to be ideal for him to succeed in the NHL. We went from desperately needing LHD to now needing help on the right side. His timing is a little late. |

You still sign him regardless, asset is an asset. What he has done the past 2 years he is worthy of a contract but he that Roy line really put a chip on his shoulder. I just dont see how his game translates to the NHL. I think Bednar and Pratt fit his style way more than Roy so that makes sense
Not a bad skater but an awkward one, very undersized, not very offensive minded. Very high hockey IQ is his saving grace but for a small, not offensive and mediocre skater to be a "2 way defender" in the NHL. I could see it being a disaster for him if he doesnt have the tools to skate out of trouble |

you're a great Poster DDM-Coga and we all enjoy your contributions. In saying that, you're talking Butcher down a bit due to how his relationship soured with Colorado. He may not be as good as we hope, but, will likely be a bit better than your insinuating. We've all acted the same way with Vesey and especially peterson. |
