I might be ignorant, but do the teams genuinely commit significant resources to development or is that primarily managed by the college club? I mean sure, two weeks each summer ... but more than that?? I really don't know. - Der Kaiser
I'm not sure either but teams spending time and energy to see their own draftees, I would assume there are convos with teams and NCAA coaches what's best for the players etc.
I know when aj Greer left Boston u to play qmjhl bc he was frustrated with his role, he mentioned the avs were very supportive of the move. Has to be some sort of behind the scenes stuff |

Bratty?
How is it any different than a standard FA refusing the current team's contract offer? If any one of you doesn't take working conditions and personal fit when considering a job offer, you're nuts.
If these guys are wlillimg to foregonthe paychecks for the requisite time frame, then the draftingvteam should look at itself.
That said, I can still be pissed that kids think my team isn't the right fit. Eff Feces and Eff Peterson. - Der Kaiser
This is obviously not based on any rational evaluation, and you can't be reasoned with on a logical basis.

I dont think Butcher is a brat, hes might be a bit of a cry baby if he really is upset that he didnt get an ELC when he did nothing to deserve it 2 years ago. Win the Baker, a national championship and will get an ELC bc the Avs didnt sign you 2 years ago...not sure how you can really be upset at them?
But he bet on himself and has become some overhyped UFA darling like we have every summer. Remember Mike Reilly from Columbus to Minny?
I dont think he brings any impact to the team that signs him but an asset is an asset and depth is depth. You can use that later so why not sign the kid. I wanted the Avs to sign him just for that reason alone, didnt think he would even get a shot at being on the Avs even with their depth - DDM-Coga
oh im not going on about butcher just college FA in general. The day Petersen said he was going to FA there were 10 pages and a hundred tweets of "what a dumb rule, kids should know better, bad character, loyalty blah blah"
Now these same people pushing the hardest for butcher to be here. |

Difference is buffalo always wanted to sign Petersen and our goalie coach was in constant contact with him in a support role for 4 years. Roy told butcher he didn't have any interest in signing him 2 years ago. If an organization said that to me (even if Roy is gone now) I'd tell them thanks but no thanks too. |

I think I have fallen in love with every college drafted ufa, so I don't hold it against anyone or any team. Even before butcher I wasn't a fan of this....I was freaking out about compher if he didn't sign last season.
They need to tweek it to encourage kids to sign with drafted teams. The more I think about it, limiting teams to signing these guys one per 3 seasons could do it. Limits the options in bidding wars and it makes teams more strategic who they go after.
Could lead to more sign and trades with drafted teams in the long run |

Roy was so dumb when it came to being a vp, he also told Kevin Hayes he wouldn't give him an roster spot but compete for one; rangers give him a guaranteed spot and the rest is history,
Hayes was almost signed but Roy (frank)ed it up |

I'll take it. You can never have enough depth defensemen. With depth defensemen in 2006 the Sabres have a Cup already. |

What if the rules were changed so that any team that drafts a player who is in college, or about to start college, gets that player's rights for at least one or two years after the player either graduates or leaves college of his own accord, regardless of how many years that becomes? That would ensure the team actually gets to see the player on their ice for that year or two, and ensures the player has to earn the right to become RFA by playing at least a little as a pro, and not just bypassing the team that essentially paid for the player's development. |

I have 0 issue with collegiate players excercising there right to become a UFA
Owners and GM's excercise there right to buy out, trade and demote players whenever they feel it's neccessary |

The problem is that every player doesn't have that option. If every player had the option it would be totally different. |

Sure but they also risk being not drafted/drafted later by choosing collegiate hockey |

That is not enough of a loss to make me feel it needs to be remedied. Draft picks are lost on busts and foreigners who won't come here all the time. |
