No it doesn't. - LeftCoaster
you just posted how important it was to get a Hedman type for Canucks. So how do you see Canucks are less desperate for top D over C next draft? Don't give the simplistic build team through top C as an answer. Be specific. |

It doesn't make next draft less desperate for a center because Pettersson and Gaudette aren't playing in the NHL next year so you have no idea if they'll be good or not. You still need a top center, a high-end skilled center to compete in the future. You also need a number one dman but I guess it depends on who's ranked higher and who you figure is the best player available.
If a defenceman is ranked number one and you're picking number one, you take him, if it's a center, you take him. Either way, Pettersson and Gaudette have no bearing on next year's draft because they're still an unknown. |

Agree they are and by that account so is OJ who is now the only option for top D. As you know they take longer to develop.
Going with present rankings you got Dahlin and Svetchikov as #1. Do Canucks take the D with your 1st pick?
So let's go with top 5 players scenario where they are grouped pretty close. No one has a clear #ed ranking. Who do you take? |

Outside of what Bo wants, because he obviously will have a say in the outcome, I think it comes down to whether people think this season was a fluke. I understand the concern of regression, sign short term to prove consistency. I am of the side that thinks he is a safe bet.
Not that these stats are really related but people do like to associate point production with cap hits... Bo finished at a tie for 83rd in points, and according to CapFriendly the 100th highest cap hit this past season was $5.5m, and next season it is $5.7m. Top 150 for this past year was $4.85m and next year its $5.0m... If contracts continue to rise a $5.5m hit should be reasonable especially if he solidifies himself as a top 150 player - WhiteLie
I don't think this season was a fluke. I think it was progression. What I don't know is what is Bo's ceiling. If this is it then he is a nice player but not a 5.5 mil player.
I think he has more to give but before giving out a long term high priced contract I want to be positive. |

Since when? Horvat is just a building block, I think it's total nonsense to say they're building around him. IMO they're simply just continuing with the building process and he's an important piece of that but hardly good enough to build around.
Bo Horvat is looking like a good player, but he's not a franchise player. - LeftCoaster

Can't answer that, I don't know where they'll actual pick and who's left on the floor. As I said, if they pick #1 and Dahlin is the top rated kid, you take him. If they're picking #3 and those two are gone, you take the next best kid....Veleno perhaps. |

Brandon Saad got 6 million per after a couple 50 point season. Never reached 59 points like Wennberg did. - manvanfan
I think Saad got a raise to 6 mil before he even played a game for CBJ . Now they have traded him back for cheaper player |

Four years from making the playoffs is my prediction. If they manage to find at least two kids per draft over that time. |
