Next draft we go for Dahlin for need if he is there even at 1OA.
Svechnikov is a great intrigue but not a fan of picking a winger high in the 1st generally speaking. In the case Dahlin is gone & we can pick him I'd seriously think on a big trade & move down a few spots. If that got us say a top 5 plus a top prospect or 2-1sts & maybe more that would be my aim. The question is who we trade with & what we target or we could simply take Svechnikov while trading assets as in Sven or more for more picks/prospects. Winger logjam is nice but quality or quantity will be nicer in the long run. - Nighthawk

In this scenario just say both equally top rated player who would be a star 1C or 1D in the NHL. Given what the Canucks have who do you choose? - Nuck4U
In the Canucks case presuming both r NHL ready its Dahlin.
We've never had that stud D & its still our glaring need. |

Patrick Laine did ok - VANTEL
Yes he did but him an a Jagr r the exceptions & difficult to pass on for sure.
I simply like building up the middle but must also be pragmatic when a Laine is there but again its a rarity. |

Take the center every time. A true number 1 defenseman is very hard to come by and #2, #3 types will be more than sufficient to be a cup winner.
Veleno Tkachuk at centre and lots of good defenseman available later in draft. McIsaac, Samuelsson as 2 quick examples of solid defensemen available this draft. Many more available.
Also, depends how you define a true #1, if you look at points only then players like Barrie and Shattenkirk are #1's, not imo though as they are huge liabilities on the defensive side of things. They need to be able to play in all situations.
Hedman is a perfect example of one of the best young #1 defensemen in the league, if not the best. - Reubenkincade
Please clarify. Will go with your Hedman true #1D. You say pick the C every time. So you would have picked JT over Hedman if they were up for 2018 and Canucks had the 1OA pick?
Which if you want to relate Veleno vs Dahlin is close in comparison. |

Previous drafts i had Seguin ahead of Hall but i was torn between Matthews & Laine but passing on an elite C can be suicide. When it comes to wingers i look hard at who else is close to decide. That said instead of passing on a Svechnikov i think thats too risky & hence why its BPA or trade down for need & a deal that makes 110% sense. |

Thanks for the commitment to the choice. Still waiting for Lefty to make one and back it up coming off his original post response to mine. |
