I don't see anything wrong with management showing a player, clips of another successful NHL player, and saying "hey look, this guy is successful, makes a ton of money, playing a style which we feel you would benefit from, why don't you take a look" lol. Tryamkin is a wuss.

Sounds like what Doug Lidster was pushing on him was to play mean. He doesn't seem have that in him. Needs to learn to use his body better for defense, handle the puck, shoot accurately and train better.

So maybe he's not ready for NHL level play and needs more development. Will getting top line minutes in KHL help over competing for bottom line minutes on Canucks this season is questionable. The family/home stuff looks to be a red herring side show. When Tree spoke back in Russia he talked about hockey gripes. Whether accurate or not shows he's a hockey players first as far as where his mind is at.

That at least gives an indication that hockey reasons will be enough for him to return at some point. That may not be with Canucks and the value of trade will depend on his development over there.

I'm going to watch his progress & his skating.

Tryamkin played it safe but if he truly wants to be NHLer it doesn't hurt he plays in the KHL. Plenty of time for him to marinate over there & if he wants to come back & be a top 4D force thats fine. Determination & maturity will help him. His mindset is he is confident & with new coaches here its a new ball game. Russians are often an enigma with the language/culture barrier being at the root of it all.

I think there is an incorrect relationship between aggressive and physicality in hockey. Tryamkin did give way too much time and space to players, he was in contain-mode most of the time. Tanev on the other hand is aggressive when he defends, limiting time and space. He knows when to attack the puck-carrier and when to back off

The Canucks probably did want him to be a little more physical, but I think the staff wanted to show him a big guy could close the gap and force mistakes (I never saw WD as a enforcer-loving coach). Similarly, Jordan Subban is watching Ellis defend to see how someone of a similar size can effectively play in his own end

Sure. The type of aggressiveness play angle can all be symantics. Tree's interpretation in interviews, later in Russia, seemed he understood it differently. Maybe sour grapes or meaning lost in translation. Either way his development over the next ? period will either get an asset by trade or a return to handle NHL challenges.

By the way did you hear if you're talking about Tryamkin means you have mental health issues. It's a fascinating take coming from the woodpile.

The Pronger Effect

Which brings us to what I think was Tryamkin’s key complaint. The Canucks wanted Tryamkin to be Chris Pronger. Coaches showed Tryamkin video of Pronger and asked him to play that way. The head coach even called out Tryamkin after a late-season game, pinning a loss to Boston on Tryamkin’s shoulders because he didn’t “step up” on Brad Marchand.

Jason Botchford has pointed out that this is an unfair expectation because only Chris Pronger can be Chris Pronger; his talent was unique.
