I know we are talking 2 different wings, but I think Pominville will end up playing more time in the top 6 than we might like. The difference is that he would be playing with better centers than he ever has, so it might be fine. I'm not sure Pominville and Vanek would be, though.

There was no reason for him to stay overseas. It didn't kill a year of his ELC due to the slide rule. Him playing in North America was a good thing. He has certainly bulked up this off season.

The thought for him to play over here was to play in the same system the Sabres play on a smaller surface.

There's no way to say staying overseas would have helped him. You literally like to throw poop at the wall and see what sticks

To further elaborate. Him playing over here with the players he should be playing with in Buffalo in the next few years is better for him to develop chemistry, on and off the ice. It helps the transition from the AHL to the NHL. But you know it's NHL 2018 and you can just put any player with anyone cause you know video games are exactly how it is in real life.

The Sabres need a scoring winger to play in the top 6. I understand that. The fact is the Sabres don't need an 8 million dollar player to play next to Eichel, or to a lesser extent, O'Reilly. All they need is someone who has good speed, and good chemistry, but it definitely doesn't have to be 8 mil dollar good. That's why O'Reilly, and soon Eichel will be making so much, because they are the ones who are supposed to make players around them better.

He actually makes 6.8 on the cap but there are a lot of really good points here. Bolded imo is the way to go when you have a centre like eichel who can make players around him better. Especially moreso when your D core still lacks a certain competitive edge in the top 4.
