I'm not sure if you're serious or not. If you are it's time to delete your account......also Kessel cap is $6.8 mil
- willi

He's making 8 million. And why does Pittsburgh want him out of town? And why did Boston and Toronto? Don't tell me its because Toronto was rebuilding. Even though they are mostly ignorant and impatient fans, they wanted him out of town way before they started the tank.

His best days are behind him. He's no longer going to be the point producing machine he was. The Sabres are in the final stages of completing a rebuild with Nylander and soon Middlestadt on the cusp.

There is so much more in hockey than freaking points! He's doesn't seem very well liked by his teammates. I don't want an aging guy who isn't in great shape on this team! He's not a good fit whatsoever. For the life of me, I do not understand why people think differently. If it were 4 years ago, then I would probably think differently, too.

I guess anyone who wants to trade assets for him, and take on his huge salary just doesn't understand hockey, and I don't even know why I waste my time trying to debate such issues with these people.

The bolded was the only good point, and Kessel is lightning fast.

I honestly can't understand how people don't want 70 point players, but are obsessed with keeping 40 point players who will make almost as much.

This city is weird

- sbroads24

The thing about sullivan is a decent point too and the fact is we'd be getting the lite version of what kessel has been.

its nothing against kessel, if the deal is a good one sign me up but in general the idea of taking on a soon to be 30 year old winger making big money doesnt seem great.

I might be the only one but I think the ahl is bad for development nowadays just Full of bust and Headhunters with little NHL Talent..

William nylander took the path that was the smartest went overseas got him ready for the NHLWith better competition

William Nylander also played in the AHL...

Just to be clear, he will make 9 this year, 7 the next two years, and 6 the final two years. Source.

As you rightly note, who cares what his actual salary is? The only thing that matters to team construction is the cap hit.

He openly admitted to not taking care of his body. He's a professional athlete, it's not the same for you and I. Drinking alcohol, not being in peak physical shape, and eating junk food is abuse to the body - especially for a guy who's in his 30s, and doesn't offer ANYTHING ELSE but scoring!

Once he loses a step, he's going to hit the wall, and hit it A lot harder than most players

No, it's not because he eats hotdogs, and posts it on Twitter or Instagram. We don't need a guy like that on this team, and for numerous reasons! Holy f*** I thought people were smart on here. You really want a 1 dimensional player in his 30s, making 8 fraking million dollars? When Jack and Sam are going to consume 15+ million per year? And for what? 1 or 2 good seasons? And a player that 2 teams tried to run the hell out of town? Do you really want another player like that? That possibly had issues in the locker room?

Wow! I can't believe people actually want this guy! We easily could have had him before he was traded to Pittsburgh. For the production he was putting up prior to being dealt, he was basically given away.

Not to mention, he's publicly had problems with Crosby, Malkin, and the coach Sullivan as well. Rumors were Pittsburgh was trying to trade him. So that makes 3 teams that want him out of town. So yeah, let's welcome him to Buffalo... Lol.

The Sabres need a scoring winger to play in the top 6. I understand that. The fact is the Sabres don't need an 8 million dollar player to play next to Eichel, or to a lesser extent, O'Reilly. All they need is someone who has good speed, and good chemistry, but it definitely doesn't have to be 8 mil dollar good. That's why O'Reilly, and soon Eichel will be making so much, because they are the ones who are supposed to make players around them better.

I didn't pay attention to where all the hate came from. I hope I wasn't Buffalo. If it was you're starting to sound like Maple Leaf fans. You're better than that! Let's just assume every single available player will come to Buffalo. That is a Leafs fan, not Buffalo.

http://thehockeywriters.c...-surrounding-phil-kessel/

You sound like someone who reads too much Toronto media

Kessel has a cap hit of $6.8 million. Not 8.

The guy plays a speed game which the Sabres are going to play. But hey lets not trade Girgensons for him.

Also you know who else was considered out of shape when he played? Brett Hull.

for the most part, I ignore pre season

but when he looks that bad, it was the baltimore game with more turnovers

you should not look this bad, after a full training camp

- homiedclown

Having 3 offensive coordinators in 3 years isn't exactly what you're looking for either.

Yeah, but Toronto is on the hook for some of it. They retain $1.2M a year. But $6.8M for a guy who has played in every single game for the last 7 seasons and never failed to score less than 20 goals(in 48 games of the lockout year) and had seasons of 32, 37, 37, 25, 26, 23 in the rest is a paltry amount of money. Sure, he's got 5 years left, but he will be a 25+ goal guy(he'd be playing higher than the 3rd line) for 3 of those years.

He's known just as much for his shot than he is for his speed.

So Kessel's hit would be $5.6???

Edit: his original cap hit was $8 million Toronto holds $1.2. So $6.8 is his cap hit Now imagine getting Pittsburgh to eat $1 million of it...

I'm not even sure how the Kessel thing started.

I have said it numerous times we are not good trading partners with Colorado.

I get that.

But the poster was concerned we'd be trading Girgensons for him.....

It would be different if the sentiment was about how we can't afford a guy who will be a bad contract in 3-4 years

I'm with you Gerbe old boy. I don't recall Eichel being exceptional at faceoffs. Let him focus on sniping
- Hatboro_Swords

He's actually terrible. Sub 40% terrible, but that's not why he plays center. He plays center because he's allowed to use the entire ice. On the wing he'd only be allowed to used 1/3 to half at most. And he'd be expected to be jamming along the boards using his energy to fight for the puck instead of coming in late and fishing the puck out.

I understand that. I was just further clarifying the salary because the statement in the anti-Kessel comments that he will be paid $8 million is also wrong. The cap hit has already been handled by everyone else.
