Make the argument about his cap hit with Eichels new contract and such and you have a leg to stand on (sort of) but making it about how he doesn't take care of his body?

Unreal. Kessel on this team would be huge. Especially playing with Eichel

- Stripes77

Being American, a guy who was a top pick who never got the respect he deserved... yeah, I'd say Kessel could have a decent impact on Eichel, especially in helping guide him along.

????

The good ones figure it out

Seriously other than Rogers what QB benefited from sitting? This isn't the 90's it's been documented. In fact I read an article the other day that showed data how QBs aren't sitting anymore and it's sink or swim and it's working.

i'd like to reed it too...am of the opinion that outside of the top quarterbacks in the draft class, some learning on the job is a big help...and even for your top qb's, having an offensive line is essential to their health and development...

sure, there are those quarterbacks who can jump right in, but in the 2000's how many first rounders sank?

I really am afraid that this Girgensons deal is a precursor to a Patrick Kane trade.

Hope Botterill doesnt take the bait

love hagelin...production/salary might not be fully in line, but there's a lot to like about his game--speed, puck-hound, intensity

The problem is we will never know if sitting behind another QB would have helped.

I have a bad feeling a deal with Girgensons for Kessel is in the works. My goodness I hope JB is smart enough not to do this. Kessel is a 1 dimensional player. He's getting long in the tooth, and eventually the fact he doesn't really takes great care of his body will catch up to him, and will prob catch up to him faster than most players. The Sabres do need a top 6 winger, but not a 1 dimensional aging chubby guy, making 8 mil against the cap.

qb's get over-hyped, I get that...but throwing a qb into the fire when they aren't ready is a death knell for their career as a potential starter

Probably

I'd rather not move McCabe considering his contract.

Gus and a 1st?

Gus, Bailey and a 2nd?

Derek Carr was put on a bottom 5 team, started from day 1, went 3-13 his rookie year, and has blossomed since.

I think it's situational. For the most part, if you are going to be great, I think you are going to be great no matter what happens in year 1 or 2.

Which is why I think it's important to not dismantle the roster. You gotta give him some tools when you draft him.

David Carr could have been a good QB but he was always on his a$$.

Look at Luck. He is no doubt the prototypical franchise guy but he has no tools around him

Difference is though that Luck is still great (Had a bad, injury plagued year) that roster though is putrid.

David Carr IMO would have been better, but never looked the part of being a "great" QB.

The days of sitting behind a veteran are long gone.
- Stripes77

This.

But Peterman does have a deep ball. I'm not gonna go finding the TC videos fort you and the fade and back-shoulder passes he's been making in the pre-season.

But this whole "He's playing against 2nd and 3rd stringer" crap needs to stop, too. Even fringe NFL'ers are only a slight talent drop-off and his O-line is also 2nd and 3rd team, as well ass everyone around him. So the playing field lowers on both sides of the ball, if anything, and having decent stats with players who only ever make a practice squad isn't such a small feat.
