he asked me a question? If you are referring to this:

"Would you admit to the positive strides that a team is making whom you've relished in watching fail for so long and have no idea how to come to terms it while your envy is so apparent to all? "

This was not directed at me, and was sarcastically aimed at you by him lol. He did not require me to answer.

No that wasn't the question nice slide though. See what he highlighted below. Note each component and it includes prospects too. I said would you cause you chimed in to say won't admit. I answered his question even though he didn't like it that or is too high to see it. No envy and no aversion. Stated who I liked though.

Nothing close to todays odds of moving up or down was my point
Any of 14 teams can get 1OA now & the Crosby draft only 5 had a chance.
Worst a team could drop back then was only 1 spot.

- Nighthawk

totally get that, but it was most certainly a lottery, and it was after the lockout season. You said Sidney Crosby wasn't a lottery pick, and was a tank job, which to me is not entirely the case.

Sure you can. The Laffs only have had the one year of success too. It's a possibility and lesson on how a surge by young guns can fizzle. A JVR dumping could be a Stastny domino too. Nothing is for sure and if injuries occur see Bolts rise fall and ?? as well. Right now they got Mathews and Reilly to build around and that's great. Just like Avs had/have Mackinnon and Barrie. See the similarities. But if they make the right moves and have more success with development they can have staying power.
- Nuck4U

Youre making a jump there. Point is that they have essentially the same team returning as last year, losing Boyle/adding Moore and then adding Marleau. Even with regressions/sophomore slumps they should be close to what they were a year before and not drop off like the Avalanche did

The Canucks 1 year playoff run and now 2 year drought is more reminiscent of the Av's

Sid not a lottery pick....tank job
McDavid shear fluke
Price was smart drafting not luck
Sedins were from a big trade

Point was a comment quoting another poster.
What is your point?

- Nighthawk

My point is that regardless how "X player" came be drafted/traded to "X team," the fact remains that they're a part of that franchise's overall history, success or failure.

To get into "what ifs," "luck," and alternate scenarios/outcomes i.e. "If Matthews wasn't a Leaf blah blah blah" is complete bullpoop and a waste of time. It's a weak cop out used by guys like Nuck4U how can't admit that they're wrong or are pulling at strings to suit themselves.

this is between you and him, me saying that you wouldn't admit to the leafs doing anything right is about as far as involved as I am between your little fued. Unless he quotes me, he is not asking me anything, that is the purpose of directing dialogue and questions in the forum...

Probabilities then n now r vastly different how the lottery can play out.
Leafs had the highest team single % to get 1OA.
The probabilities was against it.
Just pointing out the numbers nothing more.
The Crosby draft was weighted entirely differently.

No credit is ever earned if picking 1OA its good fortune firstly not skill.

Shall we discuss how Toronto had the highest odds of drafting McDavid before the final lottery ball dropped?

Sadly I agree. The only reason I would hesitate is that, in addition to Bo, Boeser, Pettersson, Juolevi, Demko, etc., the Canucks have an opportunity to add 2-3 more top end prospects in the coming years and thats kind of exciting

The Hockey news: "Auston Matthews is the 8th best player in the NHL"

1) McDavid
2) Crosby
3) malkin
4) Kucherov
5) Benn
6) Kane
7) Karlsson
8) Hedman
9) Stamkos
10) Ovehckin

Not should he not be in the top 10, he shouldn't even be in the top 20

- classic321

Really? You would take Stamkos before Austin Matthews? Not a Leafs fan, but you have to admit Matthews is the real deal.

100%.

We are exactly where the leafs were 5 years ago. Our prospect pool is starting to accumulate, theirs is graduating. I wouldn't trade anything, we are just simply at different points.

We r further along than the Leafs of 5 yrs ago.
Nylander Marner Matthews sped them up but our prospects pool r ahead of the Leafs. With their best draftees in the NHL is where we lag far behind.

I thought he meant going into the draft, not as the picks were being drawn. Makes sense now though

If you're talking fit for Tanev then look to:

Oil, Stars, Hawks, Pens, Devils, Isles, and Lafs that's it as far as teams having holes at RD. Tanev would be significant upgrade to what they have in line up and system.

- Nuck4U

I like a deal with the Oil. Why JB hasn't been all over RNH for Tanev is beyond me.
