Need EP & Gaudette to go along with BO to be playmakers for our wingers.
Biggest hole is a threat on D but thats a problem for many teams.
No PP big shot or PP QB is our achilles heal & drawing penalties as well.
A Dahlin would go along ways to filling that need we've had forever.
If not him then idk who is next best Boqvist or who?
OJ might be a solid PP QB but his shot is still suspect.
Other than BB all our other wingers require service to make them click.
JV & Gads bring other dimensions that will help out eventually.
I have no probs in our future goaltending prospects nor our pipeline depth that continues to get deeper. What i have a problem with is our D overall cannot score & is at the root of us being years away from being contenders again.

The recent cup final is a good case study to the importance of offensive D line and the juxtaposition of the two teams.
Nashivlle showed how dominate 4 guys can be.
Pitts proved the exact opposite, with possibly one of the worst D combos ever to win a cup. Meanwhile, they had 4 forwards + goalie/s that won every game.
Makar has proven NOTHING yet - he's not even played at the CHL level!!! Let alone the fact that he's 3-4 years away IF he even pans out. He's literally a pipe dream at this point.
Sens for Colin White plus a 3rd maybe
Avs for Makar plus a lil sweetener
Wings for 1st/3rd
Sabres Reinhart maybe
Idk just random guesses & up for intense scrutiny 😜 - Nighthawk
If tanev was going to get traded it would of been done before his NTC kicked in, either before the expansion draft or at the draft itself. I know its the dog days of summer but cmon
Drafting guy's like Jake Virtanen at 6 - walshyleafsfan
Fair enough, however, one miss doesn't sink you to an abyss though, where we currently are. Yzerman missed on Brett Connolly at #6 and they're fine. It's the Gillis years that's killing them, not the Benning years, thus far.

It takes time. You gotta draft the BOA regardless of the position. Gotta happen for 3 or 4 years. Nucks have done that once (possibly, too early to tell). Long road ahead. Trust a Leafs fan, they should know.
McCann, Gaunce and Shink picks don't help. Gotta flip as much as they can for picks and go from there.

There should be multiple players from the Mike Gillis years working their way into, or be in, the lineup right now, that's obviously why we are where we are.
They were winning President's Trophies and competing for a Cup so draft positions weren't great, but, that doesn't excuse the state they're currently in.
Benning had a mandate to compete when he arrived, so I'm guessing he caved and agreed (stupid wussy), but ownership has now accepted a rebuild so he has two good drafts under his belt. Gonna take some time to fix the mess.

Yeah OJ is a guy that should help, but you've gotta have them high impact players. Unfortunately they only come from the top end of the draft. The way the league has set itself up, you have to be bad before you get good.
The only way you can slightly bypass that is moving to Boston, New York or Florida or have good weather. And even then, it's no guarantee. Best way is to get 3 top 5 picks and start from there.
The rule of thumb in NHL circles is, if you produce one quality NHL player per draft you've done well, if you produce two, you've done extremely well.
2014 - they've got Demko, Virtanen and Tryamkin (not bad at all...maybe?)
2015 - Boeser & possible Gaudette, again, not bad at all...maybe?
2016 - Juolevi, he's a sure-fire NHL'er and he'll be a solid top three guy.
2017 - way too early to tell.

P.S. Gillis was awful. He was like Nonis. - walshyleafsfan
Nonis gave you Nylander, in two drafts, be thankful for that, I guess.
