I'm hoping yak does well, got him with my very last pick of my keeper's league. it was prior to that trade.

Andrighetto was able to get 16 points in 19 games playing with MacKinnon and Rants...gotta think Yakupov can sponge points with those 2 dumb moose as lineaments

Listen, son, you'd better start in a lesser draft to learn your way. This is a man's thing

Avs need to tank badly for a few years. Sakic has ruined that franchise. We won't trade Tanev because we don't have anyone to replace him yet. Perhaps in two seasons
- CanuckDon

no they don't, they have a lot of young talent already assembled. Weed out the bad contracts in a season or 2 and let the core take over.

New wave is MacKinnon, Jost, Compher, Rantanen, Zadorov, Makar. All 22 and younger. Add in some other supporting cast in a Duchene trade that fits that age group plus a good pick this year. Could be ok

Your unproven theory tanking works.
None so far in the Lottery era only promising looking teams without cups to date.
2 of those lottery winners went from from oerennial door mate to being PO teams.
One is a possible cup contender the other a bubble team.
The Av's stunk it out like no other team in recent history & got 4OA.

- Nighthawk

Finishing last has helped multiple teams to win, not only Stanley Cups but just be really good competitive teams....this is not something new.

Finishing bottom five helped Pittsburgh to multiple Cups now, it helped Chicago to multiple Cups, it helped Washington to be a really entertaining competitive team, it helped Tampa draft the likes of Stamkos and Hedman and Drouin.

Outright tanking helped the Canucks draft two quality young players in Juolevi and Pettersson. It's not just about being a Cup winner in my mind, it's about putting yourself in a position to be a really competitive entertaining team.

I wouldnt say tank badly for a few years they do have alot of good pieces, especially in Jost and Rantanen. Sakic really has ruined it, which is a shame to see. And agreed on Tanev, in two years he'll be gone when Boqvist is ready
- phyllee

No the combo of Roy being GM for the 1st season then Sakic taking over with his hands tied ruined things.

Sakic hasn't been perfect but he didn't make this mess. He gets poop on all the time but unless your follow the team closely and listen/read Avs coverage, its hard to understand how much Roy (frank)ed over this team with his power as VP of Hockey Ops

That is true, but how Sakic is treating the Duchene situation is brutal, the way hes talking to the media seems like he is done with the Avs. I think Jost could play top 6 if he has the right linemates.

Its not great, but there has been a lot of stories spun from guys like Dreger that have been complete horse poop, making speculation sound like facts, making things sound worse than they are.

I will say this, there is a lot of stories about Joe when it comes to trading players is that he is might be too attached and considerate of their feelings. Long term Avs like Hejda, he asked if he wanted to be moved at the deadline, he said he wanted to finish the season with the Avs...Joe respected that. He asked McLeod if he wanted to be traded and if he can get him to a playoff tema he would. He asked if he would be OK with Nashville before he accepted the trade. The iggy trade..bsaically just giving him away for free so he can finish playing with Sutter, thats the only place Iggy wanted to go and made suer it happened

He does a lot of that stuff and there are stories he has been doing that with Duchene behind the scenes. I dunno I think its pretty business as per usual bw Duchene and sakic, its just Canadian hockey media that are pumping some story lines at times, perhaps he probably is frustrated that things are still lingering but you just don't give away Duchene bc the Media thinks you need

My feeling is hurt

But for the record, Benning and company have tanked for the past two years (so he's a loser) and drafted two quality young kids. So you'll enjoy the fruits of their process but you'll spit in their face at the same time...cool.

All a bunch of excuses for a crappy GM.
Facts r facts he is out of his league & shoulda been canned awhile ago.
What has he done that says keep him around?
A 1st for Varlymov...overpayed for a goalie.
Won the MacKinnon lottery...no skill needed for that
D is crap & no UFA will sign with the Avs
Got fleeced on the ROR trade.
Hired the wing nut Roy
Loses Pickard & protects Varlymov...dumb
No vets around to mentor & insulate the kids.
Prospect pool is average & behind many other teams in a better position.
Set an alltime low for points in a season before the loser point.

A 1st for Varlymov...overpayed for a goalie. (Before Sakic)
Won the MacKinnon lottery...no skill needed for that (Before Sakic)
D is crap & no UFA will sign with the Avs (Didn't go after UFA D, playing own prospects, sakic said that before UFA even started they they would promote within)
Got fleeced on the ROR trade. (Not really, look up the full return and players before commenting...hint Grigorenko isn't the centrepiece, future packages take time and Zads is oldest piece at 22)
Hired the wing nut Roy (No he didn't, Kroenkes did)
Loses Pickard & protects Varlymov...dumb (No its not, Pickard is a back up, varly is still a starter)
No vets around to mentor & insulate the kids. They have Vets, Look at roster
Prospect pool is average & behind many other teams in a better position. (Its decent, ranked 20th now before it was dead last pre-sakic)
Set an alltime low for points in a season before the loser point. Yes...it was a poopty season what can you say, no defending that

- Nighthawk

What else you got, you can rip on sakic on a few things but you can't make points against him when he wasn't even the GM when they happened.

And the Varly vs Pickard thing....Varly can be a top 15 goalie in this league (he has) when he is healthy and playing to his game. And the 1st time in 2.5 years he is healthy getting that surgery that he put off, and they hired a full time goalie coach (his old one from the KHL and who worked with Tukka Rask in Finland)

Pickard is a loveable character but as a goalie but hes a below average back up. Pickard is 25 years old and has yet to show he can handle a starting role. How is protecting your 29 year old started a dumb move over a 25 year old back up?

He made the PO's his 1st season & drafted BB late 1st. Not tanking
Signed Miller for 3yrs. Not tanking
Traded for Sven & Granny for a nobody & a 2nd.
Got EG for a maybe NHLer one day...McCann...not tanking
Signed LE for 6x6...thats not a tank move
Tried to move Hamhuis/Vrbata on a lost cause season but hands were tied.
No depth & injuries forced us into the bottom the last 2yrs. Blame MG

Once it was finally obvious to FA JB was allowed to do his job.
Drafting OJ & EP had nothing to do with tanking but all about circumstances.
Signing Gagner Burmistrov MDZ is hardly tanking.

As for the process its only a byproduct of 2 lousy seasons & far from done.
If JB is tanking TANEV would be gone.

As for spitting in JB's face i've supported him since day 1 not like others knee jerk reaction he should be gone or the idiotic Dim Jim BS or scape goat crap ala WD etc etc etc.

yup.

Although.
The whole term 'tanking' could be interpreted in different ways i guess.
The canucks definitely 'tanked' from the TDL last year, when they sold off players (and used Megna/Chaput way too much) due to where they were in the standings. I have no problem with that.

I do have a problem with 'tanking' from the start of the year, which i don't think the Canucks have done.

I am on board with trying your azz off to start, but at some point, when injuries and lack of depth make it clear that the season is a write-off...do the smart thing and move assets and prepare for the next year.
