1) Get usenet (or other newsgroup service) to download shows/movies in HD/bluray quality, often before they are available for purchase. $10 month

2) Install sickbeard to automatically download shows for you FREE

3) Raspberry pi running kodi $35 for the pi

For local channels you could buy a small antenna and get an HD Home Run to watch them. I pull in channels as far away as Toronto. You can also get a cable card from the cable company.

my problem is it was more for the internet, than internet with local channels

I have a Roku Stick up in my bedroom and it does the job.

I run my Cable TV through a PC in my living room. I am thinking of switching from that to a Roku Ultra or a Nvidia Shield. The Roku is $70 cheaper, but the Shield has more capability of more apps. I don't really use any of them, but if I ever wanted to expand, the Shield seems to allow more flexibility.

I have a rooftop that I purchased for about $100 - it has unbelievable range. I gave up WMC a year ago as it as preventing me from upgrading to windows 10 on my server. If you used usenet you don't need to record anything anymore as sickbeard downloads it for you (commercial free!). I believe the new version of HD Homerun acts as both a tuner and a dvr (and also plugs nicely into kodi's "live TV" section).

However, HDHomerun has come out with a DVR software that is supposed to allow recording of Copy-Protected content in the near future. I may get a NVIDIA Shield device and run that instead. The 16GB version is only $199, and I would record to an external drive somewhere anyway so space wouldn't be an issue.

I can run HDHomerun on my Windows 10 Laptop, but cannot record at the moment.

Why not go the usenet route? It's soooo easy and would allow you to not do a lot of the stuff you are doing.

I have a Roku and two Roku sticks.
I use Plex on the Roku.
Trying to cut cable but it looks like I'm still going to get hammered with their internet costs.

So Sling is $20 for cheapest version and my internet bill will probably hit $79 for Blast.
So I'm barely saving anything.

2.) Old phone on wifi
3.) Reddit

I use ScreenMirroring with the Roku and my old Samsung S6. Then grab a stream off Reddit and ScreenMirror the feed to Roku.

My dad lets us use that FiOS app on your phone only problem it does not get the hockey games for me

So I usually just buy Center ice and NFL package

But I'm thinking about just streaming it on reddit

I suppose you can use any phone, but I have to leave it plugged into the charger since the screen stays on while you Screen Mirror. Those things can run a little hot when you have it on forever.

Another option is to get a laptop/pc with a video out source, but you need to do something about audio.

Hit and miss. More times than not, multiple feeds are available. So if you get garbage, you can try a few more and usually find something decent.

Others here can attest to Reddit I'm sure.

He played high school hockey...yes his teammates were not the same caliber as Junior players. Team Stats are garbage until your in the show
