Hey Pach, your season in review articles got me thinking, there seems to me to be a gap in Sabres history coverage between the later years of Perreault and the arrival of Pat LaFontaine. I was born in 90 and i really have never heard much about the Sabres of the '80s.
Nhl top 20 centers has Eichel at 14 and O'reilly not even on the list. Matthews was listed at 4, then Malkin, Crosby and at 1 McDavid.
They did say Eichel should climb to the top this year. I predict Eichel makes a push for number 3 this year. Give him speed and talent and he'll get there, his line will be...
NYLANDER (The Body) Eichel Skunk (Reinhart)
Don't let me hear anymore Joel Ward crap or Pouliot is better suited (for now). The Body is ready, loosen the reigns and let the thoroughbreds run. - washedup20
they had him at 22, right behind claude Giroux...
"This is my biggest surprise of not being on the list," Mike Rupp said. "If it was my list, I'd have to find a way to get him on it. When you talk to any of the players in the League that have played with him, everyone I've talked to has said he's so good. He is great offensively but might even be more talented defensively. The responsibility he has as the No. 1 faceoff guy, No. 1 penalty killer, he does everything."

I won 2 out of my 3 money leagues, and was 2nd in the 3rd league.
Bell is one failed test from a 10 game susp, and in a contract dispute. Oh and playing with a 35 yo QB who is likely to retire after this year - sbroads24

here's the cliff notes:
they brought in scotty bowman as gm and coach...he stripped the team down and built with draft picks...Housley, Andreychuk and barrasso were great but they couldn't carry the team...although the Sabres made the playoffs all but twice in the 80's, all but five teams made the post season so it wasn't really that big of a deal...bowman didn't get the job done, he stepped down in 86-87, Perreault re-retired that season, they finished in last place, drafted pierre turgeon then eventually traded him for lafontaine...
very cool part in late 80's was the alexander mogilny story:

Ah cool thanks. Yeah there just seems to be a tepid attitude toward that era. No really strong feelings either way. I've also literally never heard someone talk about Pierre Turgeon

I was reading Ward's stats wrong btw. I thought i was reading his stats from last year, but it was his career playoff numbers. I would still trade girgs, but i was WAY off. I thought the guy scored like 60 points last year lol.
Pouliot is better suited to the 3rd line - jcragcrumple

He disliked it here.
He was a soft player.
Great offensive guy though. He'll be in the HOF eventually.

I'll always value players opinions over media's. Best trade since Briere
very good draft 79-80
80-81 was bad, but blah class
81-82 flamed out, took Dudacek in round 1, never came over
Very good player in Virta in round 2, but he went overseas after a few year
Imagine if he took Chelios over Virta
82-83 had 3 first round picks and probably took 2 of the top 5 in the class with housley and andreychuk
83-84 took barrasso but had 2 other picks in top 11
if he moved them to get up in the draft, wonder what the team would have been like with yzerman, neely, or lafontaine instead of lacombe and creighton
84-85 draft sucked, hell they gave sheppard away for a dollar
his last 2 drafts also sucked
bowman was never afraid to pull the trigger, but also let his ego get in the way
IMO coming to buffalo brought scotty back down to earth and he became a better gm after, of course other teams benefited from it not us

buffalo's tear down and rebuild coincided with the rise of the Edmonton Oilers...many, myself included, were of the belief that bowman was building a great team...after all he had just came over from Montreal where "The Flying Frenchmen" were a dynasty...it was disappointing outcome...After coaching the expansion St. Louis Blues, Bowman won Stanley Cups with Montreal, Pittsburgh and Detroit...his time in Buffalo, however, didn't go as planned

there's no way any team was moving down in that 83 draft...especially after Minnesota took lawton
