Count out the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks in the Will Butcher Sweepstakes. The smooth skating NCAA star blue liner who became an unrestricted free-agent last week has been courting offers from several NHL teams, but looks to be narrowing down his list and coming close to making a decision.
So, if the Penguins and Hawks are out, who’s still in? In no particular order, you can expect Butcher to sign with one of the following four teams:
Columbus Blue Jackets
Vegas Golden Knights
New Jersey Devils

He would help out Rochester...
He is a free draft pick basically. I'd be happy if he signed but it wouldn't matter if he didn't.

they had him at 22, right behind claude Giroux...
"This is my biggest surprise of not being on the list," Mike Rupp said. "If it was my list, I'd have to find a way to get him on it. When you talk to any of the players in the League that have played with him, everyone I've talked to has said he's so good. He is great offensively but might even be more talented defensively. The responsibility he has as the No. 1 faceoff guy, No. 1 penalty killer, he does everything." - Michael Pachla
Assuming you're talking about O'Reilly here? |

vegas/devils makes a lot of sense for him. If he's okay with playing lw we could be front runners for byron.

vegas 11 d-men on one-way deals...so if he was looking for immediate ice-time, that's not a good fit, plus they're an expansion team...it would be a leap of faith for him |

Yes. 22 is too high.
He's probably right at the 30-35 range as one of the best 2C's in the game.

To be fair, Eichel should be higher than 14.
The top 20 lists are garbage.
I mean, how is Kane not a top 20 winger or Lehner not a top 10 goalie??????

yes but most of them suck...and so does the team. And they'll probably suck for at least 2 years so if he wants a shot at being treated as a top prospect with ample opportunity to be part of a teams long term plan Vegas would be up there. |
