And I'm sure that you have watched all 30 (31 soon) NHL teams evenly to come up with this unbiased opinion that's not based on stats? |

O'Reilly is right around the Couture, Kadri, Kelser, Staal pack that are very, very good #2's IMO.
If he's your #1, you probably arent very good (unless you have a great team all around) |

Do I have to?
I don't need to watch 16 Packers game to know how good Aaron Rodgers is...
DO YOU?

oreilly's been pretty impressive with the sabres...he had that drought his first year, but still lead the team in scoring and last year he was hampered by a wonky back and had an emergency appendectomy but was second in points and first in plus/minus amongst regulars

Analytics people love O'Reilly.
Still don't think he's top 20.
He was 31st in scoring for centers (give or take a few because they have some centers listed as wings, some wings as centers)
24th in PPG. (Same, give or take a few)
Yes, he's good defensively, but so are a lot of guys like him.
I think it's tough to call him a top 25 center. |

Wait so he is right around 30 for scoring and 24th in PPG and is the 3rd or 4th best defensive center in the game and that doesn't make him a top 25 center?
How is it tough to call him a top 25 center when he is 31st in points and 24th in ppg?
He is really close to being top 25 on stats alone not to mention his defensive play.
Doesn't seem too tough |

here's the cliff notes:
they brought in scotty bowman as gm and coach...he stripped the team down and built with draft picks...Housley, Andreychuk and barrasso were great but they couldn't carry the team...although the Sabres made the playoffs all but twice in the 80's, all but five teams made the post season so it wasn't really that big of a deal...bowman didn't get the job done, he stepped down in 86-87, Perreault re-retired that season, they finished in last place, drafted pierre turgeon then eventually traded him for lafontaine...
very cool part in late 80's was the alexander mogilny story:
here's a great read on that: http://www.iihf.com/home-...c92f2f75260186da52c7e41f5 - Michael Pachla
Yep, that pretty much sums it up, not good, not bad, thoroughly bland until Mogilny. |
