You're not a true Islanders fan if you're not concerned about Tavares potentially leaving - rangerdanger94
I didn't say I wasn't concerned about the prospect of him leaving, I just said I don't care what some senile assbag, that doesn't work for or report on the team, said on the radio.

If the isles brass paid Alex "no heart" Yashin 10 for 10, surely they can offer similar numbers to their franchise player entering his prime. - kindlyrick
Not exactly. Under the CBA, they can only offer a maximum of an 8-year deal. It sounds like (if you believe rangerdanger) they've already offered 10.5 per season.
BTW, I think Yashin's deal was 9 for 10. Also, the "Isles brass" has changed from Wang-Milbury to Malkin-Ledecky-Snow. I don't think the fact that Wang-Snow grossly overpaid Yashin should ever be used as an excuse for the current regime to pay another player more than he is worth.
I am a little surprised at the report that JT turned down $10.5 per season over 8 years. All previous reports indicated that his #1 concern was the arena. Then #2 concern was likely to play for a contending team. So I can't square his high monetary demands with wanting to play for a Cup contender. If he sucks up huge cap space, then how do the Isles fit enough talent under the cap to ice a contending team? Furthermore, even taking into account the effect of the New York State income tax, 10.5 is well above what Stamkos agreed to.
one I don't think Bossy posted anything and nor does he know about the negotiations.
Tavares has said he wants to be remain an Islander many times. Don't get caught up in TSN and NHL.com hype. Tavares will play his butt off all season so have no fear.
Only way they lose him is to an obnoxious overpayment. which is something you cant do anythng about. But here is another percentage for you guys to make fun off. I'm 100% certain he not going to Toronto on one year deal.
Tavares is first isles franchise players in god knows how long and he wants to be the guy that helps wins the isles a cup.
Btw - didn't seem that Tavares contract talk was worrying anders lee at all.

1) Might be the only way they keep him , by over payment.
2)I don't think there is a person breathing that believes JT will sign a 1 year deal with any team.
3) JT wants to win a cup, period. He would love to do it here but if there is no clarity on the Arena or the teams success/direction, he's gone. At this point no one knows anything because those questions haven't been answered.
4) Anders Lee and the rest of JT's team mates aren't going to worry about JT's contract. They can't do anything about it so they are going to worry about their own game / contract and let things work themselves out.

agree with points 1 and 2. however Does JT want to be the guy to lead winning a cup or part of a cast? does he strike you as a guy that likes to be #1 or guy that likes to be #2 on a team. 4) I'm sure the teammates aren't as all fearful that he is leaving.
Snow might be a tool but him and JT has been super tight since draft day. Also Tavares last contract was very cap friendly and helped snow. guess what, Snow isn't going to screw JT. forget 95% - Tavares is 100% signing with isles. Now can we talk about something else. Who is everyone breakout player of the year?
