With the wait n see approach many good teams r taking this offseason there could be earlier big trades this season than expected. Thats purely a guess but the Pens Rangers CBJ Canes r a few teams that to mind that will keep hunting for key pieces. - Nighthawk
Teams will be making moves soon . You have 3 or 4 teams over budget |

Burmistrov, Gaunce, Rodin, Gagner, Del Zotto, Weircoch, Boucher.
I garuntee over half of them walk lol - Codes1087
I was more referring to good players like Jovo, Naslund, Morrison, Ohlund, who left for nothing. You can see the decline of a team so why they don't have the foresight to trade while there's still value is sometimes frustrating. |

Lind might be a center more so then Dahlen. There is hope for MacEwen as well. But those are just the prospects in system. The development key to meshing into NHL roles.
Don't forget that there are guys on team developing. Plus additions through trade and UFA. Another great draft can push things up. Win the lotto and you really got something. - Nuck4U
Going from the CHL or Europe is a huge jump. To be a C in NHL its somewhat on FO's but a 200' game tops the list. Playmaking as a C is the most important role to be great at. A winger is so much easier to play but driving the play is usually not expected. So the dynamics r what duo on a line is magic add the 3rd wheel to make it all gel & compete. Natural C's r not necessarily a natural in the NHL but given all the roster combined can dictate who plays where. |

Other than tankers believe tanking is a sure fire to improve they r not stupid. IMO they choose the risk for high rewards but it must work out or its a very very longterm rebuild. - Nighthawk
Yeah that's the point don't think it's the smart move. They come off as it being more clever with patience and courage needed. But it's a grave gamble. That the risk on designing a team to tank is greater now then before makes it worse. You miss making that top pick. You have to start over again after a few years. The rut of failure sets in. |

fair, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more from a 5th overall/1st dman of the draft. It comes with the territory. While maybe we are all too harsh on our expectations of Juolevi, I think everyone deep down, despite the articles/media are writing, was hoping to hear Juolevi's name for all the right reasons over the span of last season. - Codes1087
All that matters is his NHL performance.
Expectations is all fine n dandy but no worries here |

Got to gamble to some degree & JB is fine with that. To tank puts a lot of faith in a GM & thats what i like about JB. He works his ass off & is always looking to deal. Drafting & trading go hand in hand building a contender. Trading is all about timing. Is for picks or is it for that missisg piece? Atm i'm for any trade that gets a top D prospect & we only really have wingers to move that we have depth in. That in itself doesn't get it done unless a team is desparate or deep on D. |

At the end of 2006/07 season they lost in the second round and you could see they didn't have what it took, yet they hung onto at 33 year old Naslund (60 pts) they hung onto 31 year old Morrison (51 pts) they hung onto 32 year old Salo and 30 year old Ohlund....for what?

I find the best GMs are always the most active ones. You can't let assets evaporate .

When Benning and or Francesco Aquilini's mentality changed they turned Burrows into Dahlen and Hansen into Goldobin, lets hope that trend continues. |

No one was raving about Marc-Edouard Vlasic before his name became famous for being an excellent defensemen because he was a second round pick. OJ's game has been compared to his, not flashy but just a great calm puck-moving game. He's gonna be just fine!
Simply the media guys wishing he was more because he was a 5th overall pick. - LeftCoaster
Good comparison - Well said |

That 2010 team might have gotten past the Hawks with a bit of help from trading a few of those guys!
- LeftCoaster
for sure, many organizations in hockey are guilty of this. In other pro sports, organizations are less loyal to their players.
Teams like the Kings should be aggressively rebuilding and they are trying to stay competitive. As a result, they will be just like the Canucks in a couple years |

You know Guddy was a 3OA pick. You just don't know how development will go. But at this point not down on OJ he's got game and we'll see how far it goes sooner then later.

That will mean they didn't pan out and it's no loss for trying. Queue in the next group of reclamation and/or prospect players. |

You throw enough things at a wall eventually some will stick.
Out of that list I would like to see Burmistrov and Weirchoch pan out |
