Not sure how you fix this one. Perhaps you tack on an extra 2 years that a team can hold your rights if a player commits the NCAA route after being drafted? - Codes1087
I always thought you limit a team the amount of NCAA free agents you can sign. If a team can only sign 2 every 3 years. Really limits a team for always going after them and makes them more selective when offering a contact.
If you cap it so a team like Chicago or New York cant go after everyone thats available. It limits a free agents options and might persuade them to sign with their own team instead |

Detroit seemed to do ok for 20 years. - Codes1087
Imagine if they could sign whatever young talent they liked from scouting. Gave lower contracts to players who you would call sleepers or gems. They would still be a powerhouse. Not in store for years of failure.
Here's another scenario not having a draft. Imagine with Canuck cap space they went after signing Mathews, Laine, OJ, EP, Makar, Svetchnikov, Dahlin and Veleno. Rebuilds wouldn't be tied to years of hoping a top player lands in your draft position. |

Carolina would definitely thrive if players get to pick where they play instead of being forced to play where they are drafted - twiztedmike
Probably not, no, but I don't really give a poop. The location of the team means nothing to me. |

Why do you think Butcher snubbed the Av's? They are probably the best opportunity for him to make an NHL roster. |

Incorrect, there are probably 5 other dmen In the ahl cue who they would play before him.
He snubbed them bc Roy told him they had no intentions of signing him after his junior year. He didn't even have a solid junior year and wanted an elc from them.
He also was a Dallas stars and madono fan growing up so (frank) that guy, grosssddd
It is what it is. I wont lose sleep over butcher |

What are you taking about? That's not being sensitive, I'm joking scout the Dallas stuff but it's just the truth. Avs are higher on their other prospects who have played the 60-100 pro games in ahl, khl, or other euro leagues that Sakic has been taking about in their dev model.
Butcher could be a nice prospect but he could be lost in the shuffle with the avs now and in the near future with makar coming. |

Drafting Makar and already having another small D in Tyson made Butcher a no go for him on Avs now. This after being not ready before. He's got better options with Pens and Hawks. Have fun with Kerfoot. |

Back In the day hated the Stars, they eye a thorn in the avs side haha but now I'm of course in different to them. Same as devils and wings. Rivalries are dead if teams aren't winning.
BUt the wild, they can still suck it |

I could see that. Although if I was an Avs fan I would feckin hate the Wings until the day I die!
It's going to be a dog fight in both the PAC and CEN for the top 4/5 teams. Unfortunately, neither of our teams will be in those discussions.

I know a lot of scouts had EP ranked as high as 1oa, and it was his weight that was the only reason he wasn't a bonafide 1oa pick like Nico/Nolan. Maybe Petterson was their guy all along, regardless of where they picked?
I find it hard to believe anyone would have picked Makar 1oa, considering he didn't even play in a good league.
I still think Colorado was foolish to pick Makar and not Heiskanen. |

Col couldn't, Dallas took Heiskanen with the 3rd pick. |

Ahh, yes, my mistake. I've just never really understood why Makar rose so high, and guys like Tippet just plunged |
