They signed 4 UFA's to fill those gaps. Signing Vanek would go against their 'younger & faster' mantra which would be a continuation of their horrendous PR messages of everyone saying something different or contrary.
The mixed messages are infuriating.

Yet our own mantra of not giving the spots to players and making them earn it? 4 out of 23 rosters spots. On the second worst team in the league. More then 4 holes to fill.

I would like to see the first PP

Granlund Bo Boeser

MDZ Gagner

- VANTEL

How's MDZ defending? seems like he would be the first guy back with short handed opportunities, I like Hutton on the PP, he seems really good at holding pucks at the blue line and snapping a puck on net (burns-esque)

That would be your other PP co-equal unit

To be given that many opportunities with PP and Ozone starts 50 pts is very mediocre
- VANTEL

It actually puts you in the top 100 scorers in the league, a lot of good players had between 50-55 points. All below had between 50-55 points with loads of PP and offensive zone starts.

Brayden Schenn
Kyle Turris
Ryan O'Reilly
Jaden Schwartz
Derek Stephan
Tyler Bozak
Wayne Simmonds
Vincent Trocheck
David Krejci
Alex Radulov
Chris Kreider
Brandon Saad
Patrice Bergeron
Johnathan Drouin
Taylor Hall
Corey Perry
Nathan MacKinnon
Couture
Palat
Barkov
Kopitar
Rakell
Steen

Some large salaries on that list. I didn't realize Perry was getting more than Getzlaf.

We need a player like Simmonds and with his cap hit.

Players that can score 20 goals a season and are in their 20s. Probably not on the market by now or wouldnt come cheap.

I can see TG and Brown experimenting. Trying out two co-equal units rolling out whoever is clicking first. Keeping one RH shooter with Sedins. Maybe what you have above as classic set up with Bo net front. But diamond for other unit with Gagner as slot roamer, LE net front, and one D back like:

Danny LE Gagner Hank

Then stand pat, be patient and continue drafting and developing.

I half agree...signing Vanek for one season and dumping him at the deadline for a pick isn't a bad move. This ensures Goblin plays in Utica a bit longer and is then called up for good after the deadline. I don't care either way if they sign him is what I'm saying. It could be a defendable move

Yeah none around. Maybe they are trying to add someone they can flip at TDL because 2018 draft is deep. Team being soft they probably expect a lot of injuries and call ups.

Goldobin's already played two years in the AHL, time for him to be given a look at the NHL level. I'm assuming they didn't trade for him to put him in the AHL.

Yeah but up to him to prove it. Strategically they could be thinking with soft team prone to injury they'll just Stecher him out

A few of the guys they signed may not even work out. Burmy doesnt have the track record. Megna, Chaput arent great. Vanek is better then all of them.

In a league of 600 players . Isn't that like winning the SC in the original 6?

Weren't you saying the other day that, Evander Kane, who is a 20 goal scorer, would be making less than his current contract.

Does it matter? He's a talent on a show me contract not a high priced player failing his reliability. If he's playing then he's healthy. If not there are others with talent who will take over the spot. Competition is high enough that he might be sent down if not having an impact from camp.

Yeah to get interest at TDL teams go with tried and true vets to part with futures. Not reclamation projects.
