oh I'm well aware. better than nothing. I always thought Mottau would make a solid bottom pairing guy. The Devils being the Devils.. we had him 1st and 2nd pair with 1-eyed White.

Hmmm so you guys want to win the lottery from a bubble position now. Well the gifts keep coming. First Hall. Then Nico. Now Butcher. Which one for 2018? Not like you guys lack any Cups or anything. So good times .... let it roll.

Nice to add a free prospect! and he'll have time to develop in your system and hopefully be a contributer to your teams Dcore in the near future! if schieder can bounce back, and the team's top players stay healthy, they'll hopefully be knocking on the door for the playoffs!

Unreal that we made the playoffs some of those years with such bad teams.

The New Jersey Devils have a great need for defensemen. Now, Will Butcher will have the great opportunity to come into training camp and earn himself a spot on the NHL roster. Welcome to New Jersey, Will Butcher!

I'm guessing that was a part (possibly a BIG part) of the draw to the Devils. As someone else mentioned, Moore and Lovejoy in the top 4 is pretty sketchy.

Between getting Johansson for nothing and now Butcher for nothing, Shero is really making something out of nothing!

While this is good for adding to a thin prospect pool, it is better for adding to NJ's ability to become a destination for free agents. Hopefully it sets an example.

well pittsburgh had alot of good collage players the last couple of years. they set an exampel more than anyone. didn't help them for poop with kerfoot and butcher.

Guy will probably never be a big difference-maker at the NHL level, but he's definitely a great prospect to add. Should contribute at both the AHL and NHL levels.

I still hate your team.

The problem with Pittsburgh is that the top-9 F and top-6 D (well, top 5 D, anyway) are basically set in stone. On a team like NJ, players have the ability to climb the ladder much more quickly and, as college FAs, these guys don't have as much time as CHL players to get their big pay day.

I think Ray has done a pretty good job trying to address the D this offseason. When you consider what the price for a good established young D-man is (Larsson) I'm pretty happy with a couple of cheap gambles in Mueller and Butcher. Ray tried to get Shattenkirk but I'm not sure what he really could have done to make him not want to play for the Rangers.

This is delightful news! Our D is terrible still at the moment, but suddenly with Severson, Santini, and Butcher, we now have 3 of our future top 4 D.

Probably would have to offer him the biggest contract ever
