Nurse looked like a beast at the world juniors. He needs to develope some confidence at the NHL level then look out, but until then....
.Russell sucks, he should definitely be given an opportunity to take that spot, but again the genius signed him for 4 more years so you know the mandate is to play him!
What's your guys take? - K-man25
I don't hate Russel. Does some decent stuff for us. I don't even hate the 4 mil THAT much, even if it's .5-1 mil too much. It's that's 4 years that makes me cringe. It's sh1tty that the Best case is that one of nurse or Benning plays well enough to take his spot as he's marginal 2nd pairing guy. and if that happens, we're paying a 3rd pairing guy 4 mil for at least a couple years
Nurse could do it, just needs to find some consistency and think the game in his own end better |

Ask him where the edges are, and to explain how flights can get from one edge to the other so quickly.
Another thing that baffles me, is why would anyone lie about our planet being roundish in the first place? How would anyone benefit from it? I don't know... Maybe there are some benefits to it... I just can't think of any. Maybe I haven't given it enough thought. - laughs2907

I work with a real flat earth moron.
It's infuriating listening to him. - robin_steele264
That's insane. When I was in management I asked outloud how old the earth was ( I think we were talking about the ice age or something) and one of the underlings said something like 3000 years. My first response was to ask if she was retarded but I stopped myself because of that whole employer respecting people rights to their own religious beliefs malarkey the unions put in place a few years ago.
It took everything I had to zip it, nod, and politely excuse myself. |

It'd be funnier if I was a flat earth guy... but that seems moronic enough to be up McSaviorspupil or Oildumbs alley.

I deal with poop like this daily as a manager...like I said; I tell people how I really feel here because I can. In my real life it would be a law suit.

Can he? Yes. Is he a second pairing dman? No. He's like a younger Ben Chiarot: big, fast, decent hands, but no hockey IQ. His numbers aren't great at the NHL level, and he's only a year or two from his peak. I hope he gets to Larsson level (Klefbom level is unreachable) for you guys, because I used to like Nurse. Then he got talked about like a god of hockey even though he dragged your blueline down like an anchor the size of a small moon for his first like 40 games. |

|
The Oil know he's at the very least a capable third pairing guy. Lock him up soon at a long term reasonable contract and maybe they have a massive steal on their hands if he develops better offence. |

Nurse was an extremely solid 3rd pairing option during that early stretch before he went down with an injury.
He carried his pair in a sheltered role and was a positive possession player
Certainly struggled to find his game when he returned after a long absence, but yeah I don't know what you're talking about during that first half. It's basically like the opposite of what you said is true
But I'll agree he has not proven he's a capable 2nd pairing guy over the long haul as of yet. It's a big year for him and now he's gonna get the ice time too.
But he's only 22 and certainly has time to develop |

Nurse can easily be a #3-4. Send him to the Ducks and let Scott Niedermayer teach him the position instead of whatever loser the Oilers have teaching their dmen. You'll see. |

Has anyone ever seen Kris Russell and Clayton Stoner in the same room? I know their contracts haven't been seen together. |

I didn't mean this past season with the anchor comment. Unfortunately he's a 22 year old in a league where most players now peak at 24. He's got time, but not much. He needs a jump in play like my boi Morrissey had last year to really make himself a good first rounder. |

Except he is 4 years younger and was on pace for 9 goals and 20 points this season which would of put him beside fellow draft mate Josh Morrissey in points but if you think Morrissey is on Chiarots level... |

Not sure defenders peak at 24....
But yeah- I don't think we're having this convo if he doesn't go down in December.
Regardless, need a significant step this year for sure |

I think you misunderstand that the point of that "peak average age" argument.
First off, that "peaking" isn't describing the player's overall development but their offensive development and physical peaks- hence why it's used most often when describing forwards. Offense peaks around then but defense, physicality and overall awareness- three more important elements to a defender- can continue to develop even into the 30s. Development usually doesn't stop until a player's skating starts degrading.
Secondly, it's an average. There'll be plenty of exceptions that can't be explained using that. It's definitely safer to bet on him falling within the majority portion of the bell curve, but far from impossible that he could see offensive improvement beyond that.
Lastly, the player's offensive peak ignores the possibility of greater offensive opportunity arising for a player. Whether it's playing for a weaker team, with a less adept defender as a partner or simply a lack of PP time, a player has avenues that can see him add to his game. |

The reference to analytics taking on larger sample sizes is the real problem with those results. Some want the analytics to give you a 'Good picture' of a players ability over a broad range, but the only thing in my opinion it gives is an average. What's wrong with taking on a single seasons results? Surely the latest data on a player will give you a better understanding of what he will be like now? Who gives a (frank) what he did a year ago - or even 2?
Going to be interesting seeing how your group comes together this season - this is it punters, window is now wide open. Win now mode has been selected!!!
Anything less than a cup final will be failure! |
