One thing to consider is it's easy to be patient with a player who's making 2 or 2.5 ish. The team, the fans and the player won't feel near as much pressure to produce while they're still developing. This is kind of what happened to Backlund and it took him quite a few years to develop into a good player. Bennett might be the same way...a project. For that reason, I hope he comes in the 2-2.5 million range which is about what he's worth.

Most of your comparables have only a single NHL season.

I really don't think that matters one bit.

I still think a contract similar to what Charlie Coyle signed with MIN is a possibility. Something like 4-5 years and $3.2-$3.5 per would be a bit of inflation from Coyle's signing date.

Wonder if Boston would want Bennett if pastranak can't be signed. Jg/money/past would be fun to watch

If we can't sign Bennett what makes you think we could sign Pastrnak? Don't get me wrong, I'd do this trade, but Boston would be insane to make it and even if they did if Boston can't get it done there's no guarantee we would.

Plus, Benny is going to come in a lot cheaper and still has a ton of potential. He's due for a breakout and I think this season he will. I'd be pretty mad if we traded him only to watch him breakout next season.

Bennett has a lot of potential but I would have to think Boston would need more for Pasta.

Yeah, Boston would definitely want more (and rightfully so) for Pastrnak. Bennett's potential isn't a guarantee of anything while Pastrnak is an established top line winger. We'd need to give up more than just Bennett.

If we're talking trades that will never happen, I think Arvidsson would be a better fit than Pastrnak. Arvidsson is listed as a LW but shoots right, so should have no problem switching. Pastrnak is good, but how much of his success is due to passing with Marchand and Bergeron? Arvidsson played with Johansen and Forsberg. Still an above average top line, but not even close to the level of Marchand and Bergeron. He's also already locked in at 4.25x7. If the rumours are true Pastrnak is looking for 6+.

Arvidsson is an absolute steal for Nashville on that contract. Considering they just have him that contract this off-season and how team friendly it is, Calgary would need to give up way too much to acquire him.

Because Tkachuk-Jankowski-Jagr is a dream I will hold on to until the end of time.

And I think Backlund and Bennett could rotate the center position around mid shift well enough to provide overwhelming puck support.

And I think It would be good for Bennett to work with those two. The downside of shifting Backlund over is outweighed by the upside of Bennett flourishing on a dominant line.

It's late August. It's ok to think out of the box a little. Tkachuk-Janitor-Jagr

3x4 would be better. Kid has not done enough to get 4. Although I agree he will be very good.

Let's put Bennett on a line with mcdavid!! We would be talking about him getting 8 mill like draisaitl but he is not!! My opinion draisaitl isn't 5 million $ better then Bennett so pay the kid 4 mill it will turn out to be a bargain

Good GM's take calculated risks and I am hoping Tre can lock him up with a bit of term for cheap. I most definitely think Bennet will be worth 4 in 4 years, but I am hoping they can get him for cheaper.

Only way Bennett gets more than 2.5 is on a long term deal. If he commits to 6-8 years he'll get paid slightly more. I don't think he'll get 4mil though. Chances are he feels that he's worth more. I would bet he's looking for a one year "show me" deal worth around 3 mill. Tre is probably pushing for a 3 year deal at <2per. That's where the hold up will be.
