Their problem is one of depth. After their awesome forwards they have Marko Dano and Nic Petan, Adam Lowry, Sean Matthias, Andrew Copp. Chris Thorburn played 64 games last year FFS! And their defense after their top 3 is vomit inducing, even more so than the Sabres. Myers doesn't count because he's played like 14 games the past 2 seasons. And Enstrom is going downhill fast, he can't stay healthy either. He's played 72+ games twice in the past 6 years and the lockout year he played in less than half the games(22).

They need to figure something out quick, or they're going to be the team that is 6th in GF, but 27th in GA for the foreseeable future.

Offer him a million or two over what Boston is paying is paying marchand and see if they're bluffing. He's sign that.

It's clear that GMs collude to keep RFA numbers down by refusing to offer sheet and that's driven by owners.

This is why we're heading toward another lockout. Owners won't pay young players who produce, and the owners don't want to pay underperforming Vets on guaranteed contracts. The cap/rfa system keeps the most productive young players underpayed and doesn't provide any additional value to the fans. Owners keep payroll down and productive vets are squeezed out in favor of younger players who in many cases are not better

Also, why does no one question the correlation between the cap number and revenue? To me, it's no coincidence that scoring is down, so revenue is stagnant. The owners, imo, are colluding to keep scoring - and therefore revenue - stagnant in order to artificially control the cap at a lower number than the market would otherwise dictate.
