Why would the owners not want to make money? That makes no sense.
- Wetbandit1

Because they can make more money with a lower cap. They know hockey will never grow to NBA/NFL levels, so if they cap the growth they can maximize revenue at that level. Increased growth gives more leverage to the PA

Edit: what I'm saying is, the owners have no incentive to grow the game because they have a view of it as a niche sport. So if they accept that there's maybe a 10% growth rate left in it if they increase scoring, they'll just have to increase payroll. The increased payroll isn't worth the marginal growth they would expect, so they keep scoring artificially low to keep payroll loe.

I understand this sounds incredibly paranoid, but I guarantee Gary Bettman has gone through all these scenarios.

Who pays the refs? The owners. So is it any coincidence that powerplay are at an all time low, and scoring is near that? I doubt it. And I think fans should ask more questions. Who benefits from lower scoring? It's not the fans and it's not the players, so that leaves one group: the owners

Already made my point.

The Jets were better than the Oilers when both Laine and McDavid were 18 year old rookies.

Yes McDavid was hurt, so we're 10 Jets by the end of this year and they still went on a roll.

Both will be contenders for a long time IMO.

If I had to choose, I'd retract my statement that the Jets were the 2nd best team and I'd probably take McDavid, because he's McDavid. But I believe the Jets have the better team around Laine than the Oil do McD.

I'm done

You're one person I actually agree with on most topics; however, when Tyler Myers and Steve Mason are relied upon heavily, you're probably not going to be a top 3 team. They are a top-4 dman, and a top 15 goalie from being on par with Edmonton. Cam Talbot is secretly becoming a very good Goaltender - and I think that's a major reason why I give the edge to Edmonton as of this moment.

I suppose you can make a case for either team, as Myers may finally figure it out, and if Mason ever becomes consistent. They arguably have the top 3 player's on any given team in Laine, Scheifele, and Wheeler. That's a big, fast, skilled trio and I'm hard pressed finding another trio that is as good (all around, even though Laine is completely 1 dimensional and prob always will be).

Either way, they are out West and don't really have to worry too much about them if you're a Sabres fan. But I'm sure Eichel pays close attention to what Laine and especially McDavid does.

The players don't get their entire salaries. They put a percentage in escrow and at the end of the year when HRR(hockey related revenue) is tallied they may get some of the money back, they may not, it depends on revenue. The players get 50% of the revenue, never more, never less. So keeping the market down means less money for the owners, more revenue means more money. For everyone.

That's why they did it like that, so one side can't artificially inflate or deflate the market. That's the theory anyway. It's slightly more complicated in practice, but generally speaking more revenue means more money for everyone.

Sorry folks, it only happens one time per year and I like the feedback:

QB - Newton
RB - Demarco, Gore, Rob Kelley, Doug Martin, Derrick Henry, Jamaal Charles
WR - Evans, Cooper, Crabtree, K Benjamin, Moncrief, Cobb, Marvin Jones, Hurns
TE - Kelce
D - Vikings
K - Mason Crosby

Too weak at RB? 10 man PPR, 3WR 1 FLEX
