No, he really isn't. The guy has been on teams that NEED D-men and both Tor and Buff said, oh hell no.

We know Q likes Rosi so if Franson really is that bad he'll get cut. No harm in looking.

I highly doubt that...TVR sucked, not sure why people liked that kid whatsoever. Franson HAS to be an upgrade over him and Rosy (who is as done as done can be).
- Murph76

He isn't. Franson has no idea what to do in his own zone. Guys are going to fly right by him.

TVR>Franson. And not by a little either.

Sure there is. He will take time that would be better spent on developing younger players.

Stop with Rozy playing a lot. That isn't going to happen.

One positive about Franson. He will make people appreciate TVR.

Especially when Franson makes more than TvR.

Well it's just a PTO, if he's really as bad as you say then he probably just won't get hired and Bowman will have to go shopping for a 4D as soon as Hossa's $ frees up at the start of the season.

That's just nonsense. He's plenty better than Rozi at this point in his career.

Wish more people believed this. But the coach and GM probably want veteran as insurance. Can't say for sure the kids wil be alright.

Isn't this what we expected.

Not in his own zone he isn't. And if he playing the PK, it won't be pretty.

They have a #4 D-man. Q just needs to play him like one. Kempny.

The D-men aren't going to matter if the puck support remains as piss-poor as it has been the last two seasons. More than ever, D depends on all 5 players on the ice.

Numbers don't tell the same story. He's not gracefull, but his shot supporession is great, his Corsi relative has always been positive, even on bad teams, and he makes his linemates better when he's on the ice.

The last two seasons in Buffalo saw Franson suppress more than seven shot attempts against when he was out there compared to when he wasn’t.

THN did a good breakdown on his numbers. He doesn't get soft minutes either.

Yet, the best he can garner is a PTO in a league that is starving for quality D-men. Especially RH shooting D-men.

Well literally all of his numbers for last season are better than the prize D prospect we gave away with the Sharp deal (Stephen Johns)...so there's that. Rethinking what I said before, Kempny will probably be 4 and Franson and Forsling or Ruuta will be 5-6.

Franson > Rosival and most likely Rutta and Forsling as well. Rosival has not been an every-night NHL defenseman since 2013. Say what you will about Franson, but he has played on dog-poop teams, with dog-poop defense partners, and on teams without the 5-man defensive zone structure that Q and the Hawks have.

Stan Bowman and the NHL Scouting Dept are paid to assess talent, and they CLEARLY see Franson as an upgrade on the 3rd pair over the other options on the roster. What is Franson's preferred side? LD or RD?

Low-risk, high reward move by StanBo. Heck, he didnt even get a contract yet, he will have to earn one in Training Camp. So, TTtime, Rosival, Forsling and Rutta will have to prove they are the better players in Camp. I don't expect them to.

If the hawks do end up signing franson ok serviceable d man good shot suppresser r hd d not great mobility, but if he is used in 12-14 minutes range some pk time then ok good signing if the hawks are expecting more then problems could rise. Also if anyone can answer this any updates on what future considerations from vegas we would get?

Teams aren't really starving for 3rd pair D-men. Franson is not a 3-4D, which is what most D-needy teams are lacking.

In no way would I be surprised if Franson is our starting RD on the 3rd pair when the season starts.

Source? Robin Press was drafted as a d in 2013. I believe he played the position all but one year of J20 in Sweden. I could be wrong. Where have you seen he has only played d three and a half years? He was a serious reach in 2013.

Ok ...the point is that is WHO was a forward for most of his life...whether it is 3 yrs or 4 yrs, or 5yrs. you can nitpick...I know who I am talking about and that he WAS a forward....

High reward? Its interesting that when those dogpoop teams attempt to get better, Franson isn't on them. Or aren't those front offices paid to assess talent?

And Carolina had a ton of high picks and could easily drop one. No big deal to them; they're looking to make playoffs NOW.

Wait!?

Did u just say Franson was a BETTER player than Rosi?

He certainly isn't physical, positionally stronger, or as aware.

Franson is an over-rated player, period.

No one here has over rated Rosi...they just rip him for what he isn't.
Well if you think guy has much quicker feet, you are in for a surprise, as he does not.

And those crap teams needed him to be a 2-4D, where here he'd be a 5-6D. Who else did people here think they could get on Day 2 of the season when they are over the cap as we speak? Apparently, he has turned down several one year deals to take a PTO with the Hawks. That tells me he has a handshake deal to sign when Hossa is put on LTIR. We'll see.

Powers suggested Rosi isn't 100%, could be we don't have the full story there. Maybe Rosi's played his last game already.
