It's not the Nylander, it's an approach to the game. The kid is talented, but honestly I have rarely watched him play. Putting young talent with O'rielly and Okposo protects him, builds CONFIDENCE, and gives him on the job fast experience.

Read the first chapter of Outliers (Ennis is talked about in it). If you put a guy who is equal (I don't see it) to the talent that the youth bring to that position, then we are not putting our best roster out there.

Pouliot's ceiling is fixed, young players aren't.

Putting him at that position only shows everyone out there that we play it safe.

The senators made it that far last year because they have true faith in each other. They believed as a group they could do it.

I believe we have more talent then them as a group

We should focus on long term chemistry, therefore let the youth run together

I hope Nylander gets at least 1 preseason game with Eichel. We're not gonna know if he's any good playing with Larsson or Girgs

I really cant see how BP makes or breaks us this year, if on a line with ROR or Jack, those two guys should be putting up 60 plus points (maybe a little less for ROR) and the goals should come for him. Comparing BP to a guy like Ellis seems like a reach just to crap on BP. The guy is 6'3" and 200+ pounds has good wheels and has proven to be able to score.
If he puts up 15g and 15a I'd be thrilled. The only way we are competing for the top pick is if Jack, ROR KO, Risto misses a huge chunk of time. The guy is making less than 1.5 mill on a one year deal, its no risk all reward.

If his on the big club, no way he plays a bottom six role, that's useless for a guy like Nylander.

Just to be clear, I wasn't comparing his skill set to ellis, I was saying that having Ellis in the opening night lineup gave me the same feeling as having Pouliot in the top 6. It's a plug that says the team has deficiencies.

If Pouliot has 15+15 on the second line, that's... bad

Value guys like Pommer and Pouliot are going to be a big reason we make a jump this year (provided they stay relatively healthy)

Depth that can actually score will help our 5 on 5 production

- sbroads24

Agreed, the key word is Depth, they bring positive qualities to the team, just not too 6 qualities.

He won't be worse than Carrier, he will be better than BP. Pouliot played with McDavid and Driasital and then got released from the team.

Even long term doesn't make sense to keep him down, we have our top 6 that he will be playing up here, see if there is chemistry.

That's what training camp/preseason is for. If he can't keep up or looks like he's not a good fit there, he'll be in Rochester.

We're better off there by a bit. Ennis was a mismatch in the bottom six where Pouliot should be, and Pominville is an upgrade over Gionta. Right now we don't have a replacement/upgrade for foligno, which makes it a bit surprising we haven't brought in a PTO guy, but I guess that's where josefson/smith/bailey/baptiste/nylander slug it out for the 4th line RW and the 2nd or 3rd line LW.

That 4th line will be hot garbage with moulson-larsson/girgs-josefson

Besides Detroit,
I could see the rest of the division finishing pretty close
Like within 10-12points of each other
Maybe someone (like Tampa) has a great year & pulls away from the pack,
or someone has some tough injuries & they drop down...
but the teams in our division seem pretty close to me
and all of them have major question marks

Let's say we signed him UFA...
Is O'Reilly the 3rd center?
Or do we move someone to the wing?

How about Baptiste though? He's not gonna have a top 9 RW spot for two years when pominville retires. Maybe he pushes pominville to the 4th line next year, but it's still not optimal for him

I mean that would be nice to have him as 3C playing against weaker lines. The biggest obstacle would be the cap. I am lost trying to think what we would do, but it would be a good problem for once having too much talent.

The loser point doesn't make 10-12 points within each other that close anymore.

There are still too many problems/Not enough experience for the lines to truly make sense yet. For long term stability, Reinhart moving back to center would be ideal. Assuming Kane can be retained at a reasonable value:

Nylander-Eichel-Baptiste
Kane-ROR-Okposo
Bailey-Reinhart-Pominville
Pouliot-Larsson-Fasching

With Moulson bought out
