god no, no one is touching Hossa recapture penalty contract no matter how many draft picks you toss in to sweeten the pot *also no one is tossing 2 1sts out, in almost any trade now, lets be serious* - DDM-Coga
If Hossa was traded, the recapture stays with Chicago no matter what, so that's a non-factor. But yeah, two firsts ain't happening. |

There is no recapture penalty if he stays on LTIR.
Look at it as two deals.
I think the Hawks would give a 1st as part of a package for Duchene.
I think the Hawks would give a first as part of a package to get rid of Hossa's cap hit.
The 2018 1st round pick likely would be a mid to late round pick, so it is not like you are trading a certain lottery pick.
In the deal I propose CO would still have $11 mil in cap space. It would be nearly a net zero cap effect.
For a team in full rebuild two 1st round draft picks should look good. They will not need the cap room until those 1st round picks finish their entry level contracts. Which will be when Hossa's contract is going off their books. |

Why wouldn't a team take hossas contract if he retires the recapture hits the hawks not the new team |

what loyalty would he give the Avs to stay on LTIR vs just retiring. Hes not a douche bag to do such a thing but you never know. I would not take that chance be he doesn't owe the Avs anything
And to see Duchene in the division, especially to the hawks would be a big slap in the face to the Avs Fans considering the package would be a lot loss quality but just more future pieces to what has been rumoured to be turned down.
I would be pissed if that was the case |

pretty sure Avs would still get penalized too, its not a big hit compared to the hawks but they still would get hit if I remember the rule correctly |

You didn't read my post. The penalty stays with the Hawks. He doesn't have to be loyal to the Avs, just the Hawks. The recpature can not be traded. |

Still think the Avs get a partial hit. Florida gets hit if Loungo retires, its not much compared to the Canucks but they still get dead cap space |

Luongo's is different because Florida got some cap benefit when they got Luongo back. At this point in Hossa deal, there is only negative cap, so there would be no penalty for a new team. |

They don't have to wait until the second day of the season to get that cap is all. it's not a huge thing, but people want it to happen. |

If Hossa is LTIR'd for the remaining years of his contract there is no recapture penalty for the Hawks or the team that acquires him. However (I believe) his cap hit is counted against the cap for the team acquiring him on the 1st day of each season. So that team must have cap room on day one of each season. It limits the team holding his contract each offseason. |

then thats just transferring that problem to the Avs who in a couple years might have the same issues since a lot of their younger talent will be coming off ELCs |

Actually by the time your kids are coming off there ELC's Hossa's contract will be ending. Don't forget at any point CO could trade Hossa's contract to another team that might have cap room or the CBA could be reopened and likely the recapture penalties could be negotiated out of the CBA or a limited buyout window could be added to the CBA. |

Love Franson for the Hawks! Could not play in top 7 for Preds, could not get rid of him fast enough when he played here a couple of years ago. |

That's because you guys played him on the left and he's right handed. He also played 5 of 7 playoff games for you, so yeah, he cracked the top 7. |

You mean how the Preds traded for him going into the playoffs and he played all but one game for them in the playoffs that season. I remember that year, when the Hawks took advantage of Seth Jones and Roman Josi. Franson wasn't too bad playing his 15 minutes a night.
The same Franson who left as UFA and signed with another team. Clearly the Preds didn't want him so badly that they gave up a 1st in the trade (Travis Konecny) to require him.
Let's recap....
Could not play in the top 7 for the Preds - False (he did and was an okay 3rd pair D on a D heavy team)
Preds could not get rid of his fast enough - False (they actually went out and got him and he left as UFA because he wanted money)

Who is the "shakier" skater: Franson or Trevor van Riemsdyk? - 17SEC
Both don't have that quick first step, but TvR needs a few strides to get going, but when he is going, he is fine.
Franson gets by gliding and trying to play smart.
Duchene would add new blood but then how are you keeping him and Saad in two years? |

Can someone tell me what this guy wrote?
My vision is affected by the gleam of 3 more championship rings (in the last 7 years) than the team with the mustard yellow unis and the lame, pathetic out of town ticket policy has ever won.

There was a time when the Hawks made a hard run at Duchene, but that was several months back and the hawk roster was quite different then.
I don't think they have enough to spare to meet COL's price at present. |

Honestly we should all take a wait and see approach with Franson and his PTO. Almost every D coming into this team in the last 10 years have been met with criticism before they even get on the ice. Oduya was never gonna work out because he was a giveaway machine if I recall. D is the most difficult skating position to master and it isn't like Franson would be a top 4.
I'd still consider him better than many of the spare parts or filler we've seen in the last 10 seasons (including Rosy)..to name a few...Jordan Hendry, Jassen Cullimore, Matt Walker, David Rundblad, Nick Boynton, Viktor Svedberg, Sami Lepisto, Chris Campoli, Kyle Cumiskey, Tim Erixon, Michael Kostka, Sean O'Donnell, Rob Scuderi, Christian Ehrhoff, Kimmo Timmonen...I mean, some of these guys played okay at time and some more than others, but personally, I think Franson is a better 5-6D than most of these guys were at the time. It will probably come down the the $$$. Hawks just shouldn't do anything dumb like offer him big cash or any term. |

That price is dropping by the day. Duchene is not going to report to Training camp, IMO. Sakic has butchered this situation, and really that entire team. If he wasnt one of the greatest NHL Centers of all time, he would already have been fired. |
