Its so funny to see how you and Broads completely did a 360 on Risto from last year. You were creaming your jeans about him for every blocked shot or passing the puck to a winger. The archive doesn't lie. Unfortunately, credibility takes a hit from a bus unless you come clean. You're Little Finger and I'm the 3-Eyed Raven. - Hatboro_Swords
it's even funnier that i knew this post was coming before i finished typing that post.
I have no problem admitting i was wrong about risto's ceiling. you can be whichever fictional character you want

honestly i think it might be trading risto for someone who can handle the minutes. Any other trade leaves you short at a position and requires you to trade twice as much. - Sabresfan-365
How about we have a competent enough defense that we don't have any defensemen that need to play that many minutes. Isn't that more of the problem and not that he's a bad player?
Even Matthew Coller who LOVES analytics wrote a whole article about how Risto's advanced stats are not really indicative to the type of player he actually is.

hes not a bad player, hes really good. to build the kind of competent defence you're talking about requires a top end guy who will take minutes away from lesser d-men (obviously not risto) or it requires the defence as a whole to be very deep. The amount of assets we'd have to move to make this happen is unfeasible

Because Matthew Coller can never himself be wrong.
So when he boasted about Risto's advanced stats the year that he and Zadorov were on our 2nd pair, and how he would be an elite #1, partly because of them, he now needs to backpeddle because Risto's numbers are awful.

Coller is a fraud - sbroads24
i think my post got misunderstood as well. I dont think hes bad just that if hes your top guy the rest of the top four have to be really good. It might be easier to move him+something for say trouba rather than try and find two separate deals for two really good top four guys.
Edit: it'd also let you keep reinhart, nylander and mittelstadt
If your second and third best d-man are scandella/mccabe, your #1 guy has to be better than risto imo. - Sabresfan-365
I still want to see how Risto can play under Housley's system. It took Hedman 5 years to really start performing at a high level. Defensemen can take a long time to develop and Risto hasn't had the easiest path with who he has been playing with and who has been coaching him.

No then they wouldn't be able to female dog and moan... Check that they would just find someone else.

I firmly believe he's in the 2/3 range, and we need another top pairing player.

This is a common misconception, by the second half of his second year hedman had started putting up top pair level defensive numbers and his offensive numbers had started coming a long. He may not have "broken out" till year five but his numbers were good.
Id like to see risto under housley as well, im just thinking it might be easier for the team in the long run.
