Wow...Bogosian is now a strong skating, physical, puck moving defenseman. Then why any team can still have him for the proverbial bag of pucks?

Wonder when Sabre fans will realize it was not coaching or ill-fitted sywtems that sunk the Sabres last year, it was a general lack of talent

the first part is. bogosians problem has never been his abilities, its the between the ears stuff. that and the fact that he can never play more than 2/3 of the season with 1/3 of that being spent getting back to normal after an injury that caused him to miss a 1/3 of the season.

I believe Bogo will turn in a better season than most have come to expect from him.
My belief stems from the last few games of the season when the team virtually gave Disco Sucks the middle finger and began playing the game they all wanted to.
Bogo had several games where he carried the puck nicely out of danger versus the GD blind pass to a spot.

Is he eligible for Rochester or is it Juniors or NHL? Also, game is streaming on Sabres.com if that hasn't been established.

Sure, but at what point does the smooth skating offensive D man label become meaningless, when it never leads to any results?

It's like calling Grigorenko a big, skilled center with great play making abilities.

oh the label itself is meaningless, they've treated him like a shut down guy since he got here. just trying to give an accurate assessment of bogo's crappyness

Like you have said, there was no alternative.

The brightside is that if Antipin plays well, Bogo can slide into the 3rd pairing and get some decent matchups

i say this for risto, because of bogosian. so by extension there should have been. the d-core last year had a lot of "defence first" guys like kulikov, gorges etc. and they gave most of the tough d responsibility to ristolainen. Seems to me the set up was perfect to shelter bogo to some degree.

Its hard to see that happening now that they've added a couple of good to great skating offensive guys.

The future looks so bright.

If one of Middlingstats or Mehlander turn out to be really good, we are a Finehart for Hanifin trade away

Don't you know that Bogo has never played well, Bylsma had a great system...it was the players that all suck, Reinhart will never be good, Adding three NHL ready defensemen means nothing, all our prospects are busts, and Housley hates puppies so he will never be the answer here? Come on, get with the program like the cool kids. As long as Risto and ROR get 28 minutes per game and backchecking is optional we will be fine!
Oh, and anal-lytics are awesome!

I just turned the game on and thought to myself. "that sounds a hell of a lot like Rex Ryan." Then the lady said "blah, blah, blah, Rex...".

Jeez, he's pretty bad at this.

wouldn't want to have any optimism going into the season, bogo is no karlsson but why is it so bad to hope he get put some offensive numbers up under a coach who plays an up-tempo style?

I actually thought he looked pretty good when he came over the year of the trade, then fell off a cliff (even more) when disco became coach.

Not saying he turns into a 50 point defenseman, but I don't think its unrealistic to expect an uptick in production with a system more suited to his playing style.

How dare you!!!

I think we should expect an uptick. Bogo can absolutely be a serviceable defenseman. The issue most of the time is just that he can't stay healthy. And then when gets back into a game after missing time looks like he's lost and looks that way for longer than is really beneficial to him or the team. If he didn't get hurt so frequently, it wouldn't be so bad.
