well it's been a knock on him since juniors. Calgary always had trouble finding the right linemates for the kid. Now Green has the same issues. Perhaps it's Jakes game and not the coaches that are at fault. I still think he can provide value to the team I just struggle envisioning him as a top 6 player. - CanuckDon
I think people looked at 45 goal and thought he high end offensive talent. Many of the analytical guys and people who watched in Calgary said he benefited greatly from his two overage linemates and was a bit of a one trick pony on offense.
I also think that shoulder injuries have hurt his shot, which was his best offensive tool IMO.
People got all butt hurt when Ferraro suggested a Hansen player and it didn't help that Benning can't seem to see beyond a players ability to "rip the puck" when evaluating offense. He was never a Bertuzzi, Nealy, type player in Junior yet that's what most wanted to believe he would become.
Luckily there is still lots of time for him to get "it" and become a useful player. Listening to his interview today on 650 gives me hope that Green is going to be much better with the kids. Hopefully Cull is cut from the same cloth. |

I understand why a player wants to win . You win multiple times you go down in history as a winner. It is damn hard to win 3 or 4 cups.
I like his attitude . I want players that want to win at all costs.

Probably find out all you need to know about it and then some, and then some more, around 8pm on Friday. |

The upside on JV...
Being he burnt a year of ELC it will save us on his next contract.
Getting him cheaper at the cost of one development year is not so bad.
Its apparent now that he needs more seasoning & nothing is wrong with that.
His shoulder issues r only a delay that we can we can live with for now.
His shot is something else & will be an asset when he's ready.
Being that we r nowhere near being a contender our task is adding talent & depth to build towards a perennial PO team. Thats well underway & more yet to do & as prospects marinade & get promoted we will begin to ascend. The process will take time & we all know it. These transition treading water seasons are fine & only stop gap while the entire system gets stocked up. |

I don't really care what the reason was that he scored 45 goals. The point is he scored it. If a jr team from Calgary can find him two good line mates then WTF can't a professional NHL team ?
Remember him Sven and Bo put up 9 points the game they played together? What does Willie do next game, pulls him off the line and puts in Vrbata.
I don't know why Jake hasn't found Success with super talent like Chaput or Jack Skille.
Jake has already stated a few weeks back don't expect me to come in this year and be a fourth line banger, I want to be a top 6 forward that chips in goals.

“My first love will always be LA. It’s one of the best organizations in all of sports, not just hockey. It’s unbelievable. They treat us first-class, and it’s a good place to play. Living in Los Angeles, you can’t beat it. I’d love to re-sign in L.A. But if our team isn’t going in the right direction…I want to win Cups. I don’t give a s— where I play. I just want to win Cups, and that’s the bottom line.”

Jake has had plenty of opportunities in the NHL with talented linemates. I know you love the Baertschi Horvat Virtanen line based off of the one preseason game but it's more likely that was an anomaly, similar to his one 45 goal season. The reality is that it does matter who you play with and how many offensive opportunities you get and how lucky your shooting % is among many other factors when determining if a player is legit or not.
The NHL is full of examples of players that have put up unsustainable points/goals/play for a season only to fall back to reality later.
Do you remember Jason Blake? Clarkson etc.

No Jake hasn't been given a lot of opportunities. Vrbata has and Louie Eriksson have but not Jake . When Jake made a mistake in a game his ass was glued to the bench.
I am not sure who the skilled wingers JV played with that you are referring to seeing Canucks don't have high skilled players. I know he played a couple of games with the twins when all three of them were in a slump.
This is a very unskilled old slow team and until the personnel change you will see many players not look good. |

This is the better assessment of JV.
JV simply wasn't ready & his treatment was bad.
WD pretty much cooked off one of JV's seasons.
More faith in Jake we will never know what that cost him & us. |

In 15/16 Jake spent 49% with Sven and Horvat, 19% Burrows and Sutter, 15% Sven and Granlund, 9% Burrows, Horvat and 9% Sedins.

Dont change the narrative here , you said he struggled because he was playing with Chaput and Skille. That you didn't care the conditions he scored 45 in juniors just that he did it.
Of course this team isn't as skilled as it once was... |

as much as i despise the Flames, i don't want to see Canada lose another team.
But a team in Seattle would be wicked. |

in 2015 all of the above sucked. - dbot
Last season, the % and players were similar but it was only for 9 games so I didn't think it was very relevant. Regardless it's not Chaput and Skille.
Edit. He stilled played close to 60% of his time with 4 of the top 5 scorers in 15/16.... |

I think they look at Edmonton and want a deal like they got
If the NHL is relocating a team there's about a dozen they could chose from before Calgary |

Different ages ...different times in their lives ...I think if the Canucks went on a downswing when the twins were doughty's age they might have a different opinion than they do right now - Redmile247
exactly. He's a young guy, of course he still would consider moving. |
