He played okay during the prospect challenge but I didn't think he was that good, Guhle however was very, very impressive.
- gordong
Yeah he said Guhle still needs to mature, and then said something about how Pu should get a chance in training camp |

Seems like negotiation tactics. Start high, battle as long as you think there's benefit in doing so. I doubt even Eichel thinks he's getting 11.5. - RhinoFan
i think they'll settle on something between 75-80 mil over 8 years |

Seriously. Are we gonna play Russian roulette and let him play out his contract and then maybe have to pay him 11 or 12 if he has a good year (or someone offer sheets him) or just bite the bullet and give him 10 now. I say give the man his money. He will be (probably already is) worth 10 mil |

I'll be happy with 13 mil. Don't care as long as he's here for 8 years at minimum |

Yup. I had 78-82 in my mind, but all the same. As long as there aren't developing, hard feelings...let them play their games. |

i doubt it ever gets that far. i think right now theyre both trying to be a little greedy. he wants close to mcjesus money and botts probably wants a steal contract to help him down the line. I think by opening night they'll have something resembling a fair deal. |

$84 million over 8 years is fine, the trick is going to be signing bonuses |

Matthews>McDavid. You can take away someone's speed by plugging up the neutral zone. You can't take away size and strength. On top of that Matthews can dangle in a phone booth, if you wanna talk about hands. No way I'd trade Matt for McD. Did you see what a force Getzlaf was against the Oilers in this years playoffs!? He easily outplayed McD............case in point.

Wouldn't be the end of the world by any means, but I wonder if there's justification for that price. Aren't many guys without hardware making that type of change...actually I think McJesus is the only one over 10 that doesn't have at least one ring. Tough to make that argument and usually logic wins out in these debates...who knows though.

IMO, you should always base contracts on future potential on not past accomplishments.
If you believe Eichel will be atop 5 center in the league for the next 8 years, then 11.5 is about right.

In a perfect world every contract would be 1 year, you get paid on how you performed last year, that way, every year is a contract year and every player will play to their limit to get that money next year.
Obviously in the real world that would never work for many, many reasons. |

While youre hopelessly miserable, I would trust you with sharp objects more than a lot of the other degenerates who post around here.
However, "contracts based on potential" is a suggestion that means you'll have to wait until Friday for my scissors. |

If we're basing this on solely what Eichel's production has been, there's no way he's getting close to 10.
If you're basing it on what he's projecting to be, then that's where you end up, a top 5 contract for a potential top 5 center.
The worst contracts teams hand out are the ones that are based on past performance and not future projections
See Brent Seabrook's deal. He's 32, and about a 4-5 mil player, who's now making 7 for an eternity |

Kane was the only player over a PPG 2 years ago and he got a 10 mil contract. Eichel was like .94 PPG last year at a tougher position and that's allowing for some inflation in a stagnating cap market. I don't think it's unreasonable to think 10m is close to market value |
