Sanheim already played all situations and handled it well. Brennan already sucks up every last o-zone start and all the PP time, so I can't imagine that changing too much. Maybe more PP time for Sanheim, but they didn't seem to think he even needed work there in the first place, so I don't know why that's suddenly a reason to keep him down.
And Brennan and O'Neill funny enough don't play all situations and are incapable of handling tough minutes because they don't play defense. Sanheim, even as a rookie, was better as an all-around, difference making presence than Hagg and Morin last year. I don't doubt they might send him down, but I think it would be a mistake. If one of Hagg/Morin wasn't there, he would be a foregone conclusion to make the team. So if it just comes down to, "They're older and need a look and we only are keeping 2 and it's not like it'll hurt him," I think that's silly. - Mononoke
I think they want to make sure that, once Sanheim comes up, he comes up to stay. Hagg and Morin are closer to finished products, and they'll likely be playing 2nd/3rd pairing minutes sans injuries. With Sanheim, I think they envision him being part of the top pairing along with Provorov, and maybe don't want to give him that role (defensively more than offensively) at the highest level with just one pro season. However, if his play makes it impossible for them to send him down, then they'll be forced to make some tough decisions, in a good way. |

Like, should we waive one or both of AMac/Manning?
Right now, they have 5 defensemen who played more than 1 NHL game last year:
Provorov
AMac
Ghost
Gudas
Manning
There are 2 spots open, and I doubt they want one of the kids being a healthy scratch as the #7. So if we assume Manning as the likely #7, the front-runners appear to be Hagg and Morin. Assuming they play well enough in camp for Hexy to put them on the NHL roster, that gives them 7D. If Sanheim impresses as well, and they don't want to carry 8D, then they may waive Manning and make AMac the #7, or they may waive AMac. |

He's gone down past couple years in play and injuries, good luck this year, no Raanta or Talbot to save your a$$. Our team has depth in youth coming, we are in far better shape than you. Enjoy this season, might be the last enjoyable one in NY for a long time. - ClaudeFather better shape? Are you joking? The flyers haven't enjoyed a season for a looong time bruh when you have one then flap your mouth[/img] |

My hope, and i don't root for injuries, but someone loses a top 4-5 guy for time and could use a MacDonald type. I know we bemoan him a lot but he can be a solid top 5 guy and eat some minutes.
Maybe a playoff team. |

Playoff teams, generally speaking, can't absorb more than 50% of his cap hit for this season and 2 more because they're usually full of veteran (i.e. more expensive) contracts. I don't see him being traded this season. Next year's TDL, with salary retained, is probably the earliest we'll see that without adding incentives. |

I think Hextall wants to see a few of the kids take on NHL roles before he really considers moving AMac. AMac, the contract, isn't an issue right now, so he really would need some other reason to not just let him stick around.
That reason would either be needing to clear a roster spot, respect for MacDonald, or because he can get something of value |

I agree with the above. The contract does become an issue with trading him. Teams would definitely have interest in the player if it wasn't for the high cap hit with multiple years remaining. I think if the Flyers want to remove MacDonald from the roster they're going to have to waive and demote him to the AHL. The odds of a trade right now even with retained salary is remote. |
