Good luck with the rest of the lineup MP. I like it thus far.
Does Gorges go in the press box? Does Moulson as well, is he sent to the minors to create a spot for a kid? Is D-Lo in the minors? Is Josefson in the opening lineup or the press box or Rochester? Lots of questions to be answered in the next couple weeks.
I'm excited for the year and the remaining construction of the team.

There is a link on the bottom of the page that takes you to the Desktop Site. On a side note, I did not get any ads with the new mobile version. I am using free adblocker on my phone. - adambuffalo
The desktop site on mobile is just as bad. I just never use the site on my phone.
Jack Eichel, C, Buffalo Sabres: "No offside. Just hang down at the other end and wait for the puck to come there." - sbroads24
A few of these guys get it:
Johnny Gaudreau, LW, Calgary Flames: I would make the three-on-three in overtime go until someone scores, instead of doing a shootout. It's more fun for the fans. The shootout is interesting, but I think [a game] shouldn't be decided by [a shootout]. Play the three-on-three out -- sometimes it ends in 10 or 15 seconds, sometimes it goes the whole five minutes, which I like to see.
Ryan Getzlaf, C, Anaheim Ducks: I'd penalize guys for diving more.
Taylor Hall, LW, New Jersey Devils: No three-point games anymore. I think it would make it more exciting. You look at the standings and you're like, 'Oh, so-and-so is .500.' But they're really not. They're 13-13-6, but they're really 13-19. I think it would make a big difference.
And then there's this one, which seemed crazy to me at first, but then started to sound better the more I thought about it:
Martin Jones, G, San Jose Sharks: Can't leave your feet to block a shot. I don't mind it, but I think there will be more scoring chances out of it, so it will be a little more exciting.
And another funny one:
Max Domi, LW, Arizona Coyotes: Selfishly, make the nets just huge. Good luck, goalies. Make their pads smaller, basically wear the same things we're wearing, then make the nets huge.

Another one that would probably increase scoring without any rule changes:
Shayne Gostisbehere, D, Philadelphia Flyers: You know how you have the long change one time? I'd make it twice. Have a long change twice. Makes it harder, you get pinned in the zone longer. More scoring.
It's not really feasible though, because a bunch of rinks, like in Buffalo are set up so that the end the home teams shoot twice on has more seats, also if you change benches some home teams go from their bench to their locker room while the away team goes to the Zamboni entrance. I don't know if the hallways connect but if a guy got hurt he might have to go through the opposition's bench to get to his locker room to get checked out. And then there'd be the awkward crossing to get to the locker rooms after periods and little bullpoop would escalate when someone said something when they're crossing.

No doubt. I don't know if it was on purpose or just an accident, but most of the legit good ones all came in a row. - JetpackJesus
feel like it was on purpose. Most of them were intelligent, mcjesus' answer is where im at right now.
I dont know if bigger ice is the solution or change in rules but the game is dying in the neutral zone and they've gotta fix that.
Im not convinced you can do that with rule changes though. Zone/boring basketball was king until a coach came along and killed it.
The offside trap and parking the bus was king in soccer until coaches constructed formations that exploited that.
Imo we are still waiting on hockeys revolutionary coach. The one who will come in with the philosophy that is far more exciting/effective than dump and chase and one that cant be defended by the 1-3-1, at least for 60 mins.

With the limited space, the players size and speed, and the rules like icing and offsides, beating the trap is not going to be changed by some revolutionary coaching change. The rules in place such as icing and offsides will keep the trap alive. They tried beating it with the hybrid icing and the "wrap around dump" but that's not feasible for every line, every player to be able to do.

The trap sucks

Because of all those things you mentioned it literally has to be. Whether its the way you build your team or how you use the players thats the kind of shift it will take because most the games design right now favours that 1-3-1 crap heavily

It's not possible
That's what I am saying.
The only way it changes is the game stops being watched and ratings dip even more and the NHL does something about it.
The good teams built around speed but again that doesn't always mean you can beat the trap. Teams with speed use the trap to negate other teams with speed. It is just bad.
Either they make the ice bigger making the trap a lot harder to pull off or they come up with a way to eliminate it (next to near impossible to penalize that)

They said that about basketball and soccer as well.
I think its only possible through actual coaching/strategy change im not saying the odds are great or that it will happen soon. the league intervening is probably irrelevant. you can change rules, size of ice etc but if defensive hockey is still the optimal strategy it will be used just as often.

More ice would make the game so much more exciting. Could you imagine 3v3 OT on bigger ice?

Basketball has such a small space that officials have to keep an eye on...
Hockey is so much faster than both basketball and soccer
