Tell that to Brent Burns. - manvanfan
Not even in the same category when it comes to players...apples and oranges. Burns put up 43 points his third year in the league, he was even a forward for awhile due to his offensive prowess. Gudbranson is nothing like him. |

Did anyone except at 30 plus years old he would put up 60 and 70 points? |

Not sure what that means but you compared the two saying Gudbranson still has some potentially untapped greatness in him like Brent Burns did, I disagree.
Edit: oh...you meant expect not except. The answer is sure why not when you've had 43, 46, 48 & 60 point seasons before you put up 75 & 76. |

I thought he was injured last year?
i'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, that we haven't seen him really play to his potential in a Canucks uniform. - dbot
He's played 30 games in a Canuck Uni…let's see what he can do if healthy this year. |

I would put a 100 dollars up that says he never gets to 20 points and he ends up a third pairing guy because he's just not that good. |

How do you say "our" when you are from B.C.?
Did someone brainwash you to like the Flames as a kid? How does something like that actually happen... |

You said after 339 games that, that is what he is going to be. If you would have wrote off Burns. You would of had 3 seasons of 20 points, 1 season of 40, 6 in half season and 16 points.
By no means is Gudbranson going to put up 40 points in the NHL ever, probably never even hit 25 points.
339 games is probably him just finally learning the league for his type of D-man. Think Brooks Orpik. |

Gudbranson is garbage, that Benning paid a 1st & 2nd rnd pick for, he's nothing more than a #5 dman. He's fine for the right price as he adds toughness in the fighting department, although he played 30 games and had 18 minutes in penalties of which almost half was from one fight. Which says he's not a physical or mean guy for a big man.
So he apparently had good playoff series for Florida, well whoopty frickin do, Steve Penny was great for the Canadiens one time as well, and so was Jim Carey for Washington. - LeftCoaster
maybe he is... maybe not... willie m and his panther teammates seemed to think he was a solid player...
let him prove him self and if he stinks then give him protected minutes and trade him at the deadline for a 1st and prospect D man who can jump in next season... |

Just my opinion but he's a solid third pairing guy at 3 million dollars a year, beyond that, get rid of him. |

Burns game reminds me of Buff's game. It's either going to help or hurt your team. Game by game who knows what you will get. |

The biggest problem with the right side of Van's D. Guds and Tanev only play on average 60 games a year. Stecher with 70 games. |

Who's writing off anyone, I'm just accepting he's the player he's going to be. After 326 games Burns showed offensive abilities, he put up 117 points his first five seasons in 326 games. You could tell you were getting an offensive upside guy who could throw some crushing hits.
You can tell you're getting a third pairing guy with Gudbranson with little offensive upside who throws the occasional thunderous hit, that's my stance on him. |

Exactly. You're billionaires. Build it then generate some goddamn revenue. Everyone gets stingy with spending when the economy and dollar are still at low points but come on. - thundachunk
I agree with you on this. The owner and the city benefit while the tax payer foots the bill.
they dangle to the city the tax dollars it generates in arena rentals (which includes concerts), tickets, food sales, merchandise, transportation, parking fees over 20-30 years. In turn there are likely tax breaks as well.
what is clear from watching over decades is that this is bettmans model for franchises. You must have city funding or threaten to move the team and the nhl will back the owners stance on it. My take on this is that they need the city to be financially invested in order to get the right tax breaks, changes in legislation etc, essentially to do their bidding |

I'm just glad this coach decides to turn up to practices!
good start.
Willie was known as a good communicator too, but i like that Green is working them hard. I think challenging this group is a good move. - dbot
its setting precedent for whos the boss and youre gonna bust your ass for me. A needed start!
They will respect him for it and get behind him when it matters the most.
Wicked start! |

Not the worst, but I'd swallow my pride if I were Jim Benning and try to recover some picks for him, get a 2 million dollar guy who provides the same service and spend the extra money on John Tavares's 10 million dollar a year salary |

Still pisses me off that he was mishandled by both clubs. He should've spent two more years in junior and then probably a year in the AHL and you'd see a totally different kid. He's certainly talented. |

I like Guddy, JB almost moved him.
That raises flags right there.
If he makes a deal, hopefully it's a good one this time. |
