They suck? Then why did they get drafted by the canucks? Is it the fault of the player that their skill set (in your opinion) is not NHL quality or is it the fault of the franchise for identifying these players as possible NHLers?
Take some time to focus your anger on the real issues here; not the kids fault it's the quality of management and their ability to assess that deservers your reticule.
I have female dog and moaned about mismanagement for years and you called me a whiner. Then you turn around and dump on the prospects like it's their fault that things aren't working out. Who's being more insane?
Remember your pro-Miller stance? Sure, tell me you are not pro Vet and anti prospect. - bloatedmosquito
MacKenzie "ECHL" Stewart being drafted and then signed is a fireable offense alone
But apparently it's impossible to draft decent players late so just look the other way when we draft a scrub while Tampa Bay finds another future NHL'er in the latter rounds by drafting actual skill/hockeysense |

The Canucks have missed on lots of picks. It's tough to predict how a 17 year old kid will develop. Every team makes mistakes.

What about the ones that look like mistakes right away? Gillis did it by drafting overagers who who had low upside but were "AHL-ready" and that as viewed as some sort of bonus, people actual used that stupid argument when he passed on Damon Severson for Alex Mallet. Nonis and Burke did it too.
And Benning does it when he drafts guys who are role players in the CHL, not even go-to guys on their CHL teams, and somehow thinks that they have actual NHL upside, which pretty much ever study done on CHL prospects shows is next to impossible. Stewart, Pettit, etc.
Yeah, those picks are long shots, but why make the odds even lower by drafting guys who aren't even that good in the CHL?
There's a reason why this team has sucked at finding late round gems over the past decade, especially Canadian ones.
Why draft players who ceiling and best case scenario is turning into a 4th liner, maybe a low-end 3rd liner(or bottom pairing dman)? Those guys are literally a dime a dozen, there's guys on PTO's or signed for $1M or less around the league who can fill that role so why not aim higher and go for a boom or bust prospect?

Yes, every team makes mistakes, but again the real question is do other teams make as many and as often as the canucks do?

I don't mind teams drafting players who were previously missed, it really also depends on where the farm team is at. Drafting Palmu for instance, he was missed in his draft eligible year, and obviously signed with Finland thinking he might be passed again, but he probably would have gone straight to Utica and developed there. It can help your organizational depth depending on where they are at. I know the Ducks drafted Tyler Soy from the Victoria Royals in his draft +1 year after he consistently put up decent numbers in the WHL. I was surprised he was missed the first time, but could be a steal for them (hes been good in their prospect games)

I don't dispute this...the Stewart pick was stupid, the Palmu pick was solid. It looks like they are focusing more on skill with later picks if this years draft is any indication. |

If you draft a player in his +1 draft with picks in your top 5 rounds, it seems dumb to me. Not that I think those players would stand out THAT much in their draft +1 year to be taken in the top 5 rounds, but your focus should definitely be draft eligible kids. What you do with your late late picks is completely dependent on organizational depth and need. |

Yeah, I'm 100% for drafting overage prospects if they actual have some nice upside. Mallet and Grenier from what I remember, were thought to be solid 3rd line players as their potential, and their downside was obviously career minor leaguers. To me, those picks start to make sense in the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds, not the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I'd rather swing for higher upside and more skill at that point. Severson was thought of to have 2nd pairing dman upside and his defensive game had some question marks, but the skill was definitely there and he just needed to round out his game and be more consistent.
Palmu in the 6th I'm on board with. Soy in the 7th round, I would have been pleased with had the Canucks taken him as well. |

4th round and beyond should be for young players stuck down in the line ups. Players like Gaudette. I don't really like all the overage players, unless they are playing in a higher up league in Europe. |

Sure. We were getting off track. Let's get back to the subject of why you dislike prospects so much. I just don't get it. Or is it the fact that you like Vets more? |

Gaudette wouldn't have gone in the 5th round if teams knew what his draft +1 numbers were going to be. Same with Forsling. Hindsight is 20/20, but those are the types of player you really hope to snag in the later rounds. |

that is completely your interpretation. Don't be so sensitive. If you think Gaudette and Forsling are the norm for their draft position, than you are wrong. They are the exception, not the rule. Far worse players were chosen before them is all I am saying. |
