I don't. Sakic has overplayed his hand though and is reaching that point past diminishing returns where he has to deal him.
Sakic wants projectable prospects.
My OPINION is Duchene is worth it for a team that has to really focus on the next two years as far as winning.
I know there are some convinced DeBrincat is going to be a star in the NHL this year. Well, I'll take that action. Can't wait to see Q's head explode when he fails to get back or gets pushed off pucks all night in real games (which would happen).
You're trading futures for a guy who comes in and fills some needs (which this team has, don't kid yourself) and definitely makes you a better team for the next couple of years.
How much is that worth to Bowman, how much does Sakic want? I don't know and it's a tough call that those kids of Jobs (NHL GMs) sometimes ride on. - John Jaeckel
Thanks for the response.
I actually think ADB could (emphasis on could) develop as a legitimate NHL top-6 player. Guys with a nose for the net don't come around often. That being said, and as you correctly point out, the window to win is NOW, and Duchene gives them a better chance to win in 17-18 and 18-19. If it costs Debrincat and Forsling, I would make that deal.

I thought +\- was only at even strength. PP goals would not count. Is duchene better then AA. Yes, But considering what Salic sounds like he has turned down. U are talking Hartman forsiling debrinct Hossa and a 1st and they would have to retain. - kmw4631
Sakic turned down primarily has to be due to one fact: what he needs is a defenseman. Forsling might be a descent player but there remains doubt if he is ready to step in and be good. The Avalanche needs a good young dman so their other d men will fall into slots and experience relative success as contrast to being a sieve.
That Sakic accepts a trade with a Forsling type means that he now must trade Landeskog for a dman.= everyone knows that. Does Minny and Winnipeg, just to make up an example, trade a Dumba or Trouba straight up. Because if I was in Sakic shoes I would not settle for Hamonic. |

Duchence retain 1-2million + lindholm Dman

I think you can re write that by making the minor adjustment of replacing Jurco. No team wants to include a basicly failed to date prospect in what is a trade of magnificent nature for Sakic.
As I explained above if you put yourself in Sakic's shoes: He must get a dman, a ready dman , back.
Yours is a descent proposal but Sakic is up against it. This sort of trade brings possibility of the need to also trade Landeskog |

Doubt Sakic goes for that.
I doubt Sakic would even go for this:
adb + forsling + Jokiharju + 2019 1st pick +
for
Duchence retain 1-2million
*EDIT* AAV would not work for the above trade.
Add in Hossa + someone else from Rockford |

Yes. No doubt a prospect or a draft choice than Jurco.
Will be interesting and suspense for Avalanche fans if by holding out Sakic eventually reels in a ready young dman
I just happen to think that there are some teams ready to explode, offensively, if they added a Landeskog to their forward mix. But if those teams feel they could swap a Trouba, a Dumba, even who knows if Nashville bites. Or If Sakic overvalues an LA dman. I could imagine Columbus offers J Johnson. No. Rather take Murray from their defense anyway. He is the better dman, defensively, + ability although hurt a lot. |

Guys....OF COURSE you pull the trigger on that deal for Duchene, a proven NHL allstar.
I can't believe what I'm reading from some of you.... i mean, Forsling and Jurco are barely established NHLers....the others are just prospects.
Duchene, RIGHT NOW, is a very good top 6 forward, and can help on face offs.
We'd be idiots not to make that trade if we had the cap space, but I'd expect the Avs want more. Any trade scenario for Duchene where we aren't losing Hartman or Schmaltz is a HUGE win.
Imagine this top 9:
Saad/Schmaltz-Toews-Panik
Fortin-AA-Kane
Saad/Schmaltz-Duchene-Hartman
That's the type of trade that can put us back in the conversation for the Cup with a dominating, incredibly fast, and nearly unstoppable matchup advantage at forward(which is why the Penguins have been so great these past 2 seasons). - SimpleJack
Well, none of that is gonna get Duchene in the first place. And the Penguins have been great because of incredible tending and Crosby and Malkin being healthy. |

Anybody else watch the preseason games so far? It's been pretty hard watching the penalty parades. I don't watch hockey to see special teams 70 percent of the time. It's going to be a long boring season if they keep this up. Tonight alone there have been 4 face off violation penalties. |

Ready top young defenceman are absolute gold in today's NHL. So if a team has a Trouba, Seth Jones, Morgan Reilly, Werenski, Thomas Chabot or McAvoy and Carlo in Boston etc, they want a helluva lot more than forward Matt Duchene and his $6M contract in return. In fact, they aren't interested in trading those Dmen at all.
So if Burnaby Joe hasn't arrived at that conclusion by now, his elevator isn't going to the top floor.
Forsling might be the best young defenceman he can get as part of a package in trade right now.
Further, look what the Oilers got in exchange for $6M/yr Jordan Eberle - a disappointing (so far), weak skating Ryan Strome. Sure, Duchene is the better player, but not that much better.
Good luck holding out for more than what's been offered to date Mr. Sakic, that's the kind of approach that Stanbo used before getting waxed on the Leddy and Sharp trades. |

(A) If they keep calling them this tight, the players will adjust and not commit so many penalties.
(2). They won't keep calling them like this (happens every year - they want to tighten up on certain things, and do - for a while - then gave to gear and hold and slash as usual. |

Exactly.
Past trades sometimes can be a barometer of what to expect. Sakic can hope.
Edmonton brought in Sekera. Next year traded Hall for Larson. Hence I suggested Landeskog. Not enough perhaps. Tough trade market.

Taylor Hall got you Adam Larsson. And that's it. I am not a Taylor Hall fan but he is a better player than Matt Duchene.
Now, Larsson played very well and was definitely something the Oilers needed but on paper, that was a lopsided trade. |

So what that says is if a team needs a 'good, not great' young defenceman, the price they will have to pay in trade is quite high. Ray Shero got exactly what he asked for from the Oilers, he wasn't going to settle for Eberle or Nugent Hopkins for Larsson, he demanded Hall.
If Hall was on a really good NHL team, you would probably change your thinking a bit about him.

It also says the price for a good, nowhere near great forward isn't anywhere close to what Sakic is rumored to be asking for or most of the posters in here have been offering up.
I doubt it about Hall. I recognize his talent and performance. Something about him rubs me the wrong way. It may be irrational but there ya go. |

If I remember correctly, at the trade deadline, the names Forsling and Hartman were a MUST for any talks to even begin. I would imagine that's probably still in play for Joe S.

the price has to have come down a little since the TDL because Duchene was essentially a 3 year rental for a cup contender
Now, he's a 2 year rental for a cup contender... |

If duchene wins you another Cup, then you really don't care whether he won't play nice and re-sign reasonably.
But maybe just maybe he shows up, buys in and becomes the impact play he was expected to...after he re-ups at a reasonable numbers/
The kid can shoot and our core makes he better.
I for one wouldn't shed tears if the hawks packaged a couple young forwards Pokka time and even former Arizona defender, if they see he isn't a fit.
We already that each and every guy on the hawk team is gonna have to dig deep and deeper to fill the spaces around the core just like after 2010 and the other two...but it happened didn't it?
And btw, Taylor Hall is a really good developing player who I think hasn't reached his upside...New jersey's guys around him compound that production.... |

Powers article excerpt:
The second line would be Alex DeBrincat-Nick Schmaltz-Patrick Kane. Quenneville gave the “All-American Line” a go for the first time Sunday and was ecstatic with the results. DeBrincat had looked ordinary the first two days of camp, but his skill level was accentuated by playing alongside two other skilled players. If that continues, DeBrincat will snatch a roster spot.
Good to see the Cat playing up to the other guys level. I'd still be surprised if he played his first season in the NHL at 19 years old, but looks good for his future ability. - JRoenick97
I'm wondering if the ADB - Schmaltz - Kane line talk will die down once Duchene gets traded somewhere. In the meantime, let's tout ADB as a top 6 forward. |
