If they start trading away any of the youth they've picked up over the past two years, then you have yourselves some issues as they are no longer rebuilding. You've entered the next phase and you'd better hope the kids you've hedged your bet on are the real deal.

Toronto did this when they traded for goalie Frederick Andersen, they had Rielly, Nylander, Marner and the first overall pick to select Matthews. They traded the 30th pick they got from the Kessel deal and a second rounder. They wanted a solid tender to help those kids.

Luckily they all turned out to be phenomenal kids and their plan worked out, luck, or otherwise, they entered the next phase.

If you think the guys we added are going to contribute enough to make an immediate difference putting us into a top 20 team position you would be wrong. This still makes us a bottom feeder. That said, we will be picking top 5 again. Though I do think it is possible to make the playoffs(extreme long shot) and as much as I want to make the playoffs I am not delusional. At least not at this moment. These moves are strictly to bring a competitive edge into the preseason with hopes to push and mentor the players coming up. Personally I like the Gagne and Vanek signing. Del Zotto I dislike. I think we are a better team this year than last but not by much.

I am usually the most positive on here when it comes to winning. Going in thinking you're going to lose is the wrong mentality. This is the NHL you didn't make the NHL because you're a loser. We are not a good team but that doesn't mean we can't play our best and win games.

Jake, Boeser, Horvat, Granlund. Are ripe imo. If this team were to make the playoffs these kids will play a huge part in that. I don't think there is anything wrong with veterans leading them and helping them through the highs and lows. Guys like these need a taste of the playoffs to get better. Developing in a winning environment is a good thing. If guys like Vanek and Gagne can help with that so be it.

I can sort of agree with that but If you have an owner that wants to spend you spend.

If they resign the twins it will be for one season and we won't know until June or July if they don't retire. Who knows maybe we will be still playing in July.

They extended 30 yr old Eriksson at 6x6 that is not short term Gagner is 3 years that is not really short term either.

There is a good chance no prospects make the team that is fine.

But spending up to the cap and having no roster spots available with waivers coming up n days is not a smart rebuild move.
